Chelsea and Brentford will open Saturday’s (October 28, 2023) action in the Premier League with a clash at Stamford Bridge. Although only two points above Brentford (10), Chelsea (12) are firm favorites in this Round 10 fixture as they hope to extend the unbeaten run to four games. Here you can take a look at our Chelsea vs Brentford betting preview and prediction.
Chelsea (Form and News)
After a disastrous start to the season, Chelsea are showing signs of serious improvement under Mauricio Pochettino, perhaps best underlined by the strength of their performance against title-chasing Arsenal. While the Blues let a two-goal lead slip in that 2-2 London derby draw, prompting Pochettino to admit he was “disappointed”, he also spoke of his pride as his charges extended their unbeaten run to four matches in all competitions (W3, D1).
A theme that continued in the Arsenal stalemate was Chelsea’s strength early in games, as they are one of just three sides yet to trail a Premier League (PL) game at half-time so far this season. While that’s been a long-running strength in Chelsea’s game, they’ve drastically improved in attack this month, as after scoring just once in September, the Blues have already netted eight times in three matches in October.
Player to watch: London derbies seem to suit Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk, who has seen both his goals for the Blues arrive against capital opposition (Fulham and Arsenal).
Mauricio Pochettino still has plenty of injury-related concerns. Armando Broja (knee), Trevoh Chalobah (thigh), Ben Chilwell (thigh), Carney Chukwuemeka (knee), Wesley Fofana (knee), Romeo Lavia (ankle), and Christopher Nkunku (knee) are all unavailable for selection.
Brentford (Form and News)
Upcoming visitors Brentford also share the same half-time distinction as Chelsea, a record charged by being the only side in the division yet to concede before the interval on the road. Holding onto results hasn’t always been straightforward for the Bees, but they were given a timely lift last weekend by securing just their second PL win of the season with a 3-0 demolition of Burnley.
That success ended a six-match winless streak in the league for Thomas Frank’s men (D3, L3), who have been struck down by injuries and suspensions to key players so far this term. A relatively short trip across the capital to Stamford Bridge should encourage the Brentford players given that Chelsea have won just once in 12 Premier League outings there (D6, L5), while the Bees have incredibly emerged victorious from both H2Hs there since promotion to the top-flight.
Player to watch: Bryan Mbeumo has been instrumental in his side’s back-to-back away H2H wins, directly contributing to three goals in those matches (G1, A2). He was also on the scoresheet against Burnley last weekend.
Thomas Frank is still without suspended Ivan Toney. Shandon Baptiste (shoulder), Mikkel Damsgaard (knock), Josh Dasilva (thigh), Rico Henry (knee), and Kevin Schade (hip) are out injured, while Keane Lewis-Potter (calf) is questionable.

Chelsea vs Brentford Betting Pick
I think Chelsea are closer to getting a W in this one, but I prefer goals over betting on the winner. Even though only two of the last ten H2Hs saw both sides score, I am going with BTTS because I am far from convinced with the quality of Chelsea’s defense. Brentford have speedy and tricky attackers and are also good from set-pieces.
After all, the Bees scored 14 goals opposite Chelsea’s 13 thus far in the EPL. The Blues concede a goal per match, which is exactly what I need to get the winning bet here. I have no doubt the hosts will score (Brentford allowed 12 goals in 9 matches), but it will be hard for them to keep the visitors from finding the back of the net, too.
Oliver’s Pick BTTS YES (-114)
