Fenerbahce is welcoming Kayserispor to Sukru Saracoglu Stadium in round 27 of Turkish Super Lig.
Fenerbahce was a legit contender for the title in Super Lig for a while, but they have been playing disastrous soccer over the last month, in Super Lig and Turkish Cup. Fenerbahce has conceded at least 1 goal in their last 6 games while scoring in 5 of those 6 matches. With 40 points, 46 scored goals, and 34 conceded goals, Fenerbahce is in 7th place in Super Lig standings which is 9 points away from the spot that leads to the Europa League. In their last Super Lig match against Konyaspor on the road, Fenerbahce had 72% of ball possession, 5 corner kicks, 89% of the correct passes, and 0 shots on goal despite having 2 extra players for the last 20 minutes of the game. Nothing was working for Fenerbahce in this game and they lost 1-0. Fenerbahce is not a bad team with some good players like Kruse, Gustavo, and Rodrigues, but coach Murat is not doing a good job with this team. Offensively, Fenerbahce has been solid for most of the season, but those days are gone and if they want to have a shot at getting to 4th place in the standings, a lot has to change in this team. Vedat is the leading goal scorer for Fenerbahce with 13 goals, while Kruse added 7 goals. Sadik, Kruse, and Dirar are injured and will not be in the lineup. The morale is not good in Fenerbahce and the only thing that could improve it is a win, which they desperately need.
Kayserispor is finally showing signs of life after what turned out to be a really bad season. Kayserispor has lost only 1 of their last 6 games while scoring 9 goals during that stretch. Kayserispor was able to keep two clean sheets in their last 6 games which is their biggest accomplishment of the season, and all of that started with the arrival of Prosinecki as the head coach. In their latest Super Lig match against Yeni Malatyaspor at home, Kayserispor had 47% of ball possession, 5 shots on goal, 3 corner kicks, and 82% of the correct passes. Kayserispor scored two goals in the first half and they missed a penalty in the last minute of the first half. In the second half, Kayserispor was mostly defending and their defense was outstanding. Kayserispor has won this game 2-1. Kayserispor is in last, 18th place in the standings with 22 points, but thanks to their good results as of late, the gap between them and Malatyaspor in 15th place is just 3 points. The defense was Kayserispor’s biggest problem this season and they conceded massive 62 goals in 26 games, more than any other team in the league, by far. Henrique is Kayserispor’s top goalscorer with 8 goals, while Artem added 4 goals. Levent, Hakan, and Miguel are injured and will not be playing in this game. Quality-wise, Kayserispor is a bellow average team, but with their current form, I think they can escape the relegation zone and stay in Super Lig next season as well.
Kayserispor has had some success against Fenerbahce, at home and on the road. There is no doubt that Fenerbahce is the better team here, but with the form they are playing in, I’m not ready to give up on Kayserispor.
