Manchester City is welcoming Burnley to Etihad Stadium in round 30 of the English Premier League.
Manchester City will not defend their EPL title from last season because they are 25 points short from Liverpool at the top with 10 games to go. The Champions League is a different story for City. They will face Real Madrid in the second leg of the Round of 16 next week but considering Real Madrid’s players are in quarantine because of the Coronavirus, it’s not sure that this match will even be played. Manchester City has scored 68 goals this season, while they conceded 31 goals. Aguero has scored 16 goals this season for Manchester City, while Sterling added 11 goals, and Jesus scored 10 times. There are no notable injuries for City which means De Bruyne has recovered from a back injury, and Sane is finally back to practicing after his ACL injury, just on time for the end of the season. In their last EPL match against Manchester United, City had 73% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 11 corner kicks, and 89% of the correct passes. Just by looking at the stats, we could say that this was an easy win for Manchester City, but it was a complete opposite. City couldn’t do anything in the attacking end, and their defense was making a lot of mistakes. Manchester City has lost this match 2-0. I think that Manchester City has enough quality to go al the way in the Champions League, at least in the attacking part of the game, but Guardiola will have to get his defenders squared off if he wants to go all the way in the Champions League.
Burnley is on a nice run with no losses in their last 5 games and their last 7 EPL games overall. Thanks to this run, Burnley is in 10th place in the EPL standings with 39 points, 34 scored goals, and 40 conceded goals. Chris Wood has scored 11 goals for Burnley this season, while Ashley Barnes added 6 goals. Gibson, Lowton, and Gudmundsson are injured and will not be playing. In their last EPL match against Tottenham at home, Burnley was great with 45% of ball possession, 8 shots on goal, 3 corner kicks, and 74% of the correct passes. Burnley got the early lead in the 13th minute and that was the result of the half-time. The second half was rough on both sides, and Tottenham was able to tie the game from a penalty kick. The result didn’t change anymore, and this match ended in a 1-1 draw. Burnley is playing only in the EPL for the rest of the season, and with that in mind, I think that Burnley has enough quality to climb the standings a little bit more, and with the way they are playing, they just might. Burnley is safe outside the relegation zone, and they are only 6 points from the spot that leads to the Europa League, something that would be a historical success for this club. Sean Dyche is doing a fantastic job as the head coach of this team and I’m looking forward to seeing him at the helm next season as well.
Manchester City and Burnley have played 15 times against each other with City winning 11 games, Burnley has won only 1 game, while 3 matches ended in a draw. Manchester City has won the last 5 home games against Burnley and has scored at least 2 goals in all 5 of those games. City hasn’t scored a goal in their last EPL match, but I don’t see that happening again here.
