FC Union Berlin is welcoming Bayern Munich to An der Alten Forsterei Stadium in round 26 of German Bundesliga.
Union Berlin is safe outside the relegation zone in Bundesliga, but they haven’t won any of their last 3 games. In their last 5 games, Union has conceded 13 goals, while scoring 7 goals. Union Berlin is in 11th place in the standings with 30 points, not bad for a team that got promoted to Bundesliga this season. Andersson has scored 11 goals for Union Berlin this season, while Bulter added 7 goals. Gogia, Dehl, Mees, and Schmiedebach are injured and will not be playing this week. In their last match in Bundesliga against Freiburg on the road last weekend, Union was solid with 48% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 2 corner kicks, and 74% of the correct passes. Union Berlin was the underdog in this match, and rightfully so. Freiburg was dominant, and the better team in this game and they won 3-1. Union’s only goal for this season was to stay outside the relegation zone and to secure their Bundesliga status for next season, and they achieved that goal with 9 games to spare. Some people think that Union could still go to the spot that would take them to the Europa League considering they are only 7 points away, but I don’t think that Union has the quality or the depth to get there. This is Union’s maximum this season, and they are perfectly happy with this result.
Bayern Munich is at the top of Bundesliga with 55 points, 73 scored goals, and 26 conceded goals. Bayern hasn’t lost any of their last 11 games, dating back to mid-January, and they haven’t conceded a goal in their last 4 games while scoring 12 goals. If the game doesn’t get postponed, Bayern will face Chelsea at home in the second leg of the Champions League next week, a game which Bayern will enter with a 0-3 advantage from the first leg. In Bayern’s last Bundesliga match against Augsburg at home, they had 74% of ball possession, 9 corner kicks, 6 shots on target, and 86% of the correct passes. Bayern has won this match 2-0, but to be honest, I was expecting more from them in this game, but I guess with Lewandowski not being in the lineup messed up Bayern’s offense and their efficiency. Lewandowski will most likely miss another two games alongside Sule and Perisic who are also injured. With 25 goals in 23 games, Lewandowski is the leading goal scorer for Bayern, while Gnarby added 11 goals. Thomas Muller is the best assistant of the team with 15 assists. Bayern is a fantastic, young team that is once again dominant in Bundesliga, the only difference is that 2 other teams are close behind them and because of that, Bundesliga is once again exciting and tense. In the Champions League, Bayern has a huge advantage against Chelsea, and they would have to lose 0-3 next week for a game to even go to the overtime. I think that Bayern will advance to the quarterfinals, and after that, anything is possible because Bayern has the quality, depth, and the game style to go all the way in the Champions League.
Union Berlin has played against Bayern only twice, and they lost both of those games. Union Berlin is 6-1-5 at home this season, while Bayern is 8-2-2 on the road. Bayern is the better team here by far, and they are playing in a much better form. Even without Lewandowski, Bayern has plenty of offensive firepowers.
