Chelsea is welcoming Everton to Stamford Bridge in a very exciting match of round 29 in the English Premier League.
Chelsea has been struggling as of late, and the latest piece of bad news for coach Lampard is that Kovacic might be injured for a longer period of time. Earlier this week, Chelsea was playing in the FA cup against Liverpool and they won 2-0, and Chelsea will face Leicester in the quarterfinals in this competition. In the EPL, Chelsea is in 4th place with 45 points, but Manchester United and Wolverhampton are getting dangerously close to Chelsea. In the Champions League, Chelsea is playing against Bayern and they lost 0-3 at home in the first leg. The second leg is being played in 2 weeks in Munich. In their latest EPL match against Bournemouth on the road, Chelsea was dominant with 74% of ball possession, 6 shots on goal, 14 corner kicks, and 88% of the correct passes. Chelsea had the 0-1 lead at the half-time, but they conceded 2 fast goals at the beginning of the second half. Marcos Alonso scored his second goal of the game in 85th minute and the match ended in a 2-2 draw. Tammy Abraham is Chelsea’s top goalscorer this season with 13 goals, but he is questionable for this match alongside Hudson-Odoi and Christensen. Van Ginkel, Oulisic, Kante, Willian, and Kovacic are all injured, while Jorginho is suspended because of yellow cards. Chelsea is a great team, but with all the injuries they don’t stand a chance against Bayern. In the EPL, Chelsea is in 4th place for now, but the battle for that spot will be tough until the end. The FA Cup is a competition where Chelsea should go all-in now considering that it is the only competition where they still have a chance of winning the title.
Everton is playing great soccer, but their defense is still a bit shaky, something coach Ancelotti will fix soon I believe. Everton has lost only 1 of their last 7 games, which is a clear sign of improvement from the start of the season. Everton is in 11th place in the EPL standings with 37 points, and if Everton continues to play this well, I think they could climb the standings up to 5th or 6th place. In their most recent EPL match against Manchester United at home, Everton was solid with 44% of ball possession, 5 shots on target, 13 corner kicks, and 74% of accurate passes. We saw two goals in the first half, goals that were conceded from goalkeepers mistakes. In the second half, goalkeepers got to another level and neither of the teams was able to score a goal. This game ended in a 1-1 draw. Everton scored at least 1 goal in every of their last 7 games, but they also conceded at least 1 goal in 6 of their last 7 games. Calvert-Lewin is Everton’s top goalscorer with 13 goals, while Richarlison added 10 goals. Gbamin, Schneiderlin, and Coleman are all injured, and they will not be on Ancelotti’s disposal for this game. I really enjoy watching Everton play because they are playing fast soccer with the compact midfield, and their attack can score a lot of goals. The only thing Everon must improve is their defense, but I’m sure Ancelotti is already working on that. In the next two games, Everton is playing against Chelsea and Liverpool, but their advantage is that Everton is playing only in the EPL which will give them more time to rest the other teams.
The away team hasn’t won any of the last 6 games between Chelsea and Everton, while the away team has won only 1 of the last 12 games. Chelsea is struggling with injuries and that certainly won’t help with their inconsistency. I will take a stab at Everton.
