Bayern Munich is welcoming Augsburg to Allianz Arena in round 25 of German Bundesliga.
Bayern is on a fantastic roll where they haven’t lost any of their last 10 games, and more importantly, Bayern hasn’t conceded a goal in their last 3 games. Offensively, Bayern has been outstanding in their last 10 games where they scored massive 33 goals which is an average of over 3 goals per game. In Bundesliga standings, Bayern is in 1st place with 52 points, 71 scored goals, and 26 conceded goals. At the moment, everything is going Bayern’s way and they are playing in the fantastic form, on both ends. In their last Bundesliga match against Hoffenheim last weekend, Bayern was absolutely dominant with 66% of ball possession, 11 shots on goal, 7 corner kicks, and high 92% of the correct passes. Bayern has won this game 0-6, and it would have been even more if the players haven’t decided just to pass the ball around between themselves for the last 15 minutes after Bayern’s fans started chanting against Hoffenheim’s owner, and I don’t mean in a good way. This was a way that players of both teams decided to protest against those fans. Lewandowski is Bayern’s top goalscorer with 25 goals and is the leading goal scorer in Bundesliga, while Gnarby added 11 goals. Thomas Muller added 15 assists. Sule, Perisic, Coman, and Lewandowski are injured and will not be in the lineup. Bayern is not playing in the Champions League next week, but they basically got the job done in the first leg where they have beaten Chelsea 0-3 on the road, all that is left to do is play the second leg calmly and advance to the quarterfinals. The race for Bundesliga is still tight, and I think it will be tight until the very end, and yes, once again, Bayern is the main favorite.
Augsburg has had some good results this season, but they won only 1 of their last 7 games. Augsburg has scored a goal in only 4 of those 7 games, while they conceded a goal in every single one of those matches. Augsburg is in 13th place in the standings with 27 points, and they are safe outside the relegation zone only thanks to their good results earlier in the season. Offensively, Augsburg has been more than solid this season with 36 scored goals, but their defense has been a disaster with 50 conceded goals in 24 games which is an average over of just over 2 goals per game. Niederlechner has scored 11 goals and added 6 assists for Augsburg this season, while Max added 7 goals. Asta and Giefer are the only two injured players for Augsburg and they will not play in this game. In their last Bundesliga game against M’gladbach at home, Augsburg had 44% of ball possession, 3 shots on goal, 5 corner kicks, and 79% of the correct passes. Some aspects of the game were good from Augsburg in this match but unfortunately, that was not enough, and Augsburg has lost this game 2-3. Augsburg’s schedule is not easy over the next few weeks, but I believe that they do have enough quality to stay outside the relegation zone and I think Augsburg will keep their Bundesliga status next season as well.
The last match between Bayern and Augsburg played in Munich ended in a 1-1 draw which was a huge surprise, but I don’t see that happening here. Bayern is a much better team, in a much better form, and more importantly, Bayern can’t afford to drop points here against the opponent like Augsburg.
