Borussia M’gladbach is welcoming Borussia Dortmund to Borussia-Park in round 25 of German Bundesliga.
M’gladbach is one of the best teams in Bundesliga this season, but unfortunately for them, I don’t think they have the depth to compete with Bayern and Leipzig all the way until the end of the season. M’gladbach is now in 4th place in Bundesliga standings with 46 points, 46 scored goals, and 27 conceded goals. In their last 5 games, M’gladbach has 3 wins and 2 draws 13 scored goals and 7 conceded goals. In their last Bundesliga game against Augsburg on the road, M’gladbach had 56% of ball possession, 7 shots on goal, 3 corner kicks, and 88% of the correct passes. The first half of this match wasn’t that exciting, but when the second half started, it felt like a completely different game. M’gladbach scored 2 early goals and got the lead, but in 57th minute Augsburg is getting back in the game with a goal. M’gladbach was controlling this game and has scored another goal in 79th minute. Once again, Augsburg is getting back in the game with a goal in 83rd minute but they weren’t able to score another goal. This match ended 2-3 in favor of M’gladbach. Plea is the leading goal scorer for M’gladbach with 8 goals, while Embolo and Thuram added 6 goals each. Musel and Thuram are injured and will not be playing in this game. M’gladbach is playing nice, fast, and fun to watch soccer, but what M’gladbach is missing is a striker capable of scoring at least 15 goals in a season and for that reason, I don’t see M’gladbach staying in the race for the title for much longer.
Borussia Dortmund is one of the best offensive teams in Europe they won all of their last 4 games while scoring 9 goals during that stretch and conceding only 1 goal. Borussia is in 3rd place in Bundesliga standings with 48 points, only 4 points less than Bayern on top. Dortmund has scored huge 66 goals in 24 games this season, and the only team that scored more is Bayern. In their last match in Bundesliga, Borussia was the better team with 64% of ball possession, but only 2 shots on goal, 6 corner kicks, and high 91% of the correct passes. Borussia has scored only 1 goal in this match, but that was enough for another victory and another three points. With the Champions League match against PSG on their schedule next week, I think coach Favre will give a little bit of rest to some of his stars. Sancho has been the best player for Borussia this season with 14 goals and 14 assists so far, and he will most likely leave Borussia at the end of the season to go to either Manchester United or Chelsea. Marco Reus added 11 goals, while Haaland scored 9 times in 7 games. There are no injuries in Borussia at the moment, and because of that, I am even more convinced that Favre will rest some of his players, probably Sancho and Reus. Borussia is coming into the second leg of the Champions League with a 2-1 advantage from the first leg but has in mind that PSG can outscore any team if Mbappe is in a mood. Borussia must approach this game with caution and plan B ready.
M'gladbach has the home record of 8-2-1 this season, but they haven’t won any of their last 10 games against Borussia Dortmund. It’s clear that Borussia Dortmund is the better team with more depth, but I’m not ready to write off M’gladbach just yet. Borussia will save themselves for the Champions League, and that is the chance for M’gladbach.
