Barcelona is welcoming Real Sociedad to Camp Nou in a very interesting match of round 27 in Spanish LaLiga.
Barcelona is wildly inconsistent this season and apparently, players are not satisfied with the new coach, Setien, and especially his assistant. Barcelona is once again behind Real Madrid in LaLiga standings with 55 points, 62 scored goals, and 31 conceded goals. There is no Champions League game for Barcelona next week, which means all of the best Barcelona’s players will be in the lineup for this game. Barcelona has conceded at least 1 goal in 6 of their last 7 games, while they scored in only 4 of their last 6 matches, as I said earlier, wildly inconsistent. Last weekend we had the El Clasico derby on our schedule on Sunday, and boy was it a good one. Barcelona had 56% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 2 corner kicks, and 90% of the correct passes. Barcelona was the better team in the first half, but Real Madrid was a different team in the second half and the deservedly won this match 2-0. Barcelona has two big problems this season, sloppy defense, and inconsistent Messi who despite that scored 18 goals and added 12 assists. Suarez has 11 goals, while Griezmann has 8 goals. Dembele, Suarez, and Roberto are injured and will not be playing. Barcelona hired Setien with the idea that he will be their future and that he can bring a certain dose of defensive improvement, but that didn’t happen and the only way Setien will stay in Barcelona is if they win the Champions League, and even after that I’m not sure. There is only one point difference between Barcelona and Real Madrid and I think this season will be tight until the end.
Real Sociedad is playing fantastic soccer this season and they lost only 1 of their last 10 games. Sociedad was able to score at least 1 goal in all of their last 10 games, while they were able to keep the clean sheet in 5 of those 10 games. Sociedad has 43 points and is in 6th place in LaLiga standings, but I believe they can get higher and I believe Sociedad can get qualified for the Champions League, and they certainly have the advantage because Sociedad is playing only in LaLiga for the rest of the season and in the finals of Copa del Rey where Sociedad beat Mirandes in the semi-finals earlier this week. In their last LaLiga game against Valladolid at home, Sociedad was fantastic with 55% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 8 corner kicks, and 79% of the correct passes. Sociedad was the better this in this game and they won 1-0. In the attacking part of the game, Real Sociedad is one of the best in LaLiga this season with 43 scored goals. Jose Willian has scored 8 goals for Sociedad this season, while Portu, Oyarzabal, and Isak all scored 7 goals. Illarramendi is the only injured player for Sociedad at the moment. Real Sociedad is the type of team that never gives up and every single player will give his best in every game, and that is Sociedad’s biggest strength this season. If Sociedad can stay this even half as consistent as they are right now, I believe Sociedad will qualify for the Champions League next season.
Games between Barcelona and Real Sociedad are always tense and fun, and more importantly, we see a lot of goals, and I expect the same here. We know that Barcelona can score a ton of goals against any team, but their defense is not good, and I think Sociedad will know how to exploit that.
