Over 2.5 (-188), Under 2.5 (+150)
Real Madrid is hosting Celta Vigo at Santiago Bernabeu in one of the most interesting matches in round 24 of Spanish LaLiga.
Real Madrid is looking good this season and they lost only one game since October of last year, and that was against Real Sociedad in Copa del Rey last week. Real is at the top of LaLiga with 52 points, 3 points ahead of Barcelona in second place. What keeps Real Madrid going this season is their superb defense which conceded only 14 goals in 23 games. This doesn’t mean that Real’s offense hasn’t been good, because it was with 44 scored goals. The problem for coach Zidane is that Real Madrid is lacking goal-scoring depth with Hazard being injured. Benzema has scored 13 goals and 6 assists for Real Madrid this season, while Ramos has 4 goals. Asensio and Diaz are injured, while Hazard is expected to be in the lineup, but I don’t see him playing until he is fully ready. In their last LaLiga game against Osasuna, Real Madrid had 55% of ball possession, 7 shots on goal, 3 corner kicks, and 81% of the correct passes. Real Madrid was losing since the 14th minute, but Real Madrid was able to turn the game around before the half-time. In the second half, Real Madrid scored 2 more goals and has won this game 1-4. In two weeks, Real Madrid will play against Manchester City in the Champions League, which will be yet another test for Real’s defense because City will certainly put huge pressure on Real Madrid in both games.
Celta Vigo is once again fighting for their lives in LaLiga. Celta is in 17th place in the standings with only 20 points, 2 points outside the relegation zone. Celta hasn’t been good on either end of the game this season and they scored only 19 goals while conceding 32 goals. After four games without a win, Celta faced Sevilla last weekend at home. In that match, Celta had 45% of ball possession, 7 shots on goal, 3 corner kicks, and 79% of the correct passes. It was the usually bad game for Celta, and they conceded an early goal in the first half. In the second half, Celta came out more determined, and eager to score a goal that would get them back into this game. Iago Aspas has tied the game in 78th minute, and Sisto scored a winning goal for Celta in 91st minute. This victory was a huge boost for Celta and could mean that the better days are on the horizon for Celta. Aspas is Celta’s leading goal scorer with 8 goals. Junca and Villar are only two injured players and will not be in the lineup for this game. Celta Vigo is a talented team with a few experienced players that are leaders in the locker room, but coach Garcia is just not capable of utilizing that talent and I think he is the main reason why Celta is struggling so much. LaLiga is the only competition that Celta is playing which means the players will be well-rested for most of their games. I understand that the club wants to give time to coach Garcia, but since he was hired back in November of last year, Celta didn’t improve in any aspect of the game, and when there is no improvement, Celta’s management should make a move. I’m not saying Celta must hire some superstar coach, but someone who has a clear plan on how to make the team better and get the maximum out of the players, and the players have certainly a lot to give.
Celta Vigo hasn’t scored a goal in their last 2 away games against Real Madrid, and with Real playing the defense this good, I don’t see it happening in this game. Celta’s attack is dull and is not creating a lot of chances, while their defense is leaking all over the place. I think Real gets another win here and stays on top of LaLiga standings.
