Over 2.5 (-350), Under 2.5 (+275)
FC Koln is welcoming the leader of Bundesliga, Bayern Munich, to RheinEnergieStadion in part of round 22 of German Bundesliga.
Koln has been playing solid soccer this season, and I’m sure they surprised even themselves. Koln has been promoted to Bundesliga this season and is now in 13th place in Bundesliga standings with 23 points, 27 scored goals, and 38 conceded goals. In their last 3 Bundesliga games, Koln has scored 8 goals and has conceded 6 goals. Bundesliga is the only competition that Koln is playing in, which I think is good for them and they can focus only on securing their spot in Bundesliga next season as well, which I think Koln will do. In their last Bundesliga match against Freiburg at home, Koln had 45% of ball possession, but massive 9 shots on goal, 10 corner kicks, and 74% of the correct passes. Koln was fantastic in this match on both ends and has won 4-0. Cordoba is Koln’s leading goal scorer with 7 goals, while Bornauw added 4 goals. Hauptmann and Kessler are the only two injured players for Koln. Koln is an average Bundesliga team that is being coached very well by Markus Gisdol, but unfortunately, there is nothing more coach can do because Koln doesn’t have the quality of depth to be any higher in the standings and I believe this is their maximum.
Bayern has caught fantastic form as of late, especially in the attacking end where they scored 16 goals in their last 5 games. Another good thing for Bayern and coach Flick is that their defense is getting better and all the injured defenders are now back and ready to play. Bayern is at the top of Bundesliga with 43 points, 58 scored goals, and only 23 conceded goals. In their last Bundesliga match against Leipzig, Bayern was the better team with 69% of ball possession, 3 shots on goal, 11 corner kicks, and 86% of the correct passes. Even though Bayern was the better team and was pressuring Leipzig since the beginning of the game, defenses were in the main focus in this match. I was expecting a ton of goals in the matchup between two of the best teams in Germany, but instead, the game ended in a 0-0 draw. Lewandowski has scored 22 goals for Bayern in 21 games and is one of the best goal scorers in Europe, Gnarby added 7 goals, while Coutinho has 6 goals. Thomas Muller is Bayern’s top assistant with 11 assists. Martinez and Perisic are injured, while Sule should be ready to play in this game. In two weeks, Bayern will face Chelsea in the Champions League, and I believe they will win that matchup not because they are the better team, but because Bayern is a more experienced team and with more depth. There is a tight race in Bundesliga right now with 5 teams still in play for the title, but Bayern’s biggest competitors are Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund. Bayern’s goal this season is not Bundesliga, but it’s not like they will just walk away from the top spot. The Champions League is something Bayern is craving, and they will do everything in their power to go all the way and to be honest, I don’t see the team that could stop them at the moment, except maybe Liverpool. The next two games in Bundesliga for Bayern are on the easier side which will allow coach Flick to rotate his best players to keep them fresh for the Champions League.
Koln hasn’t won any of their last four games against Bayern, but they also haven’t lost any of their last 5 home games overall. I don’t think Koln has the quality to compete with Bayern when they are playing as well as they are right now.
