Real Betis vs. FC Barcelona 2/9/20 Spanish LaLiga Soccer Pick, Odds, and Prediction
2/9/20 3 pm
Over 2.5 (-188), Under 2.5 (+150)
Real Betis is hosting FC Barcelona at Benito Villamarin Stadium in part of round 23 of Spanish LaLiga.
Betis is a good team with some high-quality players like Iglesias, Fekir, and Canales, but Betis can’t seem to get consistent. Betis is in 12th place in LaLiga standings with 28 points, 30 scored goals, and 34 conceded goals. Betis hasn’t won any of their last 3 games and has conceded 2 goals in that stretch while scoring only 1 goal. In their Copa del Rey match 2 weeks ago against Rayo Vallecano, Betis lost in a penalty shootout and got knocked out of the competition. The offense hasn’t been a problem for Betis this season where they scored solid 30 goals in 22 games. Moron has scored 8 of those 30 goals, while Joaquin added 7 goals. Junami, Guardado, and Pedraza are injured, while Feddal is suspended because of the red card. In their last LaLiga match against Eibar, Betis was the better team with 65% of ball possession, 7 corner kicks, 6 shots on goal, and 84% of the correct passes. Fekir scored an early goal in the 7th minute, but just 8 minutes later Eibar has tied the game and the result hasn’t changed again. Betis is another team that will play only in LaLiga for the rest of the season which will give them the rest advantage over some other teams. As I said before, the offense hasn’t been the problem for Betis, but their defense is a problem and coach Rubi is not getting things done. I think it’s time to find someone who can make this team better.
There has been a lot of turbulence in Barcelona over the last few days and it all started after their loss in Copa del Rey against Athletic Bilbao. After that match, Barcelona’s general manager Eric Abidal publicly criticized the players by saying that some of them are giving their max for this club and you know that today’s stars in any sport get their ego bruised easily. You can guess what happened next, Messi responded first, followed by other Barcelona stars and the rumor is that Messi asked Barcelona’s president to fire Abidal. After that, there was an urgent meetening between Abidal and Barcelona’s president where it was decided that Abidal is staying. Now, the next rumor is that Messi gave an ultimatum to Barcelona, either Barcelona’s president will resign, or Messi is leaving the club in the summer, and he can despite being under contract because he has a clause in the said contract that allows Messi to leave at any time. If this happens, first in line to sign Messi is Manchester City whose coach is Guardiola, Messi’s mentor, and friend. All of this information and rumors should be taken with a big dose of suspicion because after all, this is just rumors. Barcelona is in second place in LaLiga with 46 points, 3 points behind Real Madrid but the season is far from over. In the Champions League in 2 weeks, Barcelona will face Napoli with the first leg being played in Naples. In their last LaLiga match against Levante, Barcelona was dominant with 67% of ball possession, 9 shots on goal, 8 corner kicks, and high 91% of the correct passes. It was Barcelona’s usual high possession game which they won 2-1. Barcelona’s defense is still shaky and coach Setien must be given some time to implement his ideas. Messi is the leading goal scorer in Barcelona and LaLiga with 14 goals, followed by Suarez with 11 goals. Messi also added 8 assists. Suarez and Dembele are both heavily injured and the season for them is over, while Neto should be ready for this game. Pique is suspended due to the yellow cards. Barcelona is still in play for LaLiga and the Champions League titles, but the morale in the team is not good and coach Setien has a huge task in from of him to try and get players spirits up and egos contained.
Games between Betis and Barcelona are always exciting and fun, and I don’t expect this one to be any different. Both teams are playing solid offensive soccer, and both defenses are not playing consistently. With all that being said, I’m giving the edge to Barcelona and I expect goals.
