Inter is hosting AC Milan at Giuseppe Meazza in round 23 Derby della Madonnina in Italian Serie A.
Inter has been playing some great soccer this season and they haven’t lost any of their last 9 games. Inter is in second place in Serie A standings with 51 points, 3 points less than Juventus at the top. It's hard to say what was better in Inter’s game this season, their offense or the defense, but both were excellent. Inter has scored 44 goals in 22 games this season, which is an average of 2 goals per game. Romelu Lukaku has scored 16 of those 44 goals, while Martinez added 11 goals. In their last Serie A match against Udinese, Inter had 58% of ball possession, 8 shots on goal, 2 corner kicks, and 88% of the correct passes. Inter was struggling with creating chances in the first half, but Lukaku has scored 2 swift goals in the second half and Inter has won this game 0-2. Berni and Gagliardini are injured, while Martinez is suspended because of the red card. Inter’s starting goalkeeper Samir Handanovic should be ready for this match. Inter is playing consistent defense and they have calm and steady midfield where they are in control against most of their opponents, but what keeps Inter ahead of everyone else is their amazing and explosive attack that is capable of scoring a ton of goals. Inter will play against Ludogorets in the Europa League in 2 weeks and should have much trouble in that matchup. After getting knocked out of the Champions League, Inter is now the biggest favorite to win the Europa League, and if they continue playing well as they do, Inter will go all the way.
Milan is playing better with every game, but they are still far from a team capable of competing for the Serie a title. Milan hasn’t lost any of their last 6 games, and they got qualified to Coppa Italia semifinals after beating Torino 4-2 in overtime. In the semifinals of Coppa Italia, Milan will face Juventus next week. As far as the Serie A goes, Milan is in 7th place with 32 points, 1 point behind the spot that leads to the Europa League qualifications. In their last Serie A match against Hellas Verona at home, Milan was the better team with 60% of ball possession, 9 corner kicks, 5 shots on goal, and 81% of the correct passes. Milan was constantly attacking and putting pressure on Verona’s defense, but they couldn’t score a goal and the game ended in a 1-1 draw. This result wasn’t surprising because Verona is playing well this season, while Milan is still finding their goal scoring form. Theo Hernandez has scored 5 goals for Milan while Piatek who is no longer in the club scored 4 goals, but Milan’s best player recently was Ante Rebic who has both scored and assisted for some important goals. Duarte is the only injured player which is good news for coach Pioli. I was always a fan of Milan because that is the team that gave us some of the best players in history of this game, but for the last few games Milan was a disaster on both ends and to be honest, they don’t deserve to win anything before they fix the situation in and around the club. It looks like Milan is making the right moves as of late, and I hope this great club gets back on the winning track soon.
Derby della Madonnina is one of the biggest derbies in the world and it almost never disappoints. Even though Inter is the better team with more quality and better game style, I believe that Milan will score at least a goal. There is no home-field advantage here because Inter and Milan share the stadium, something we should certainly take into consideration.
