Hellas Verona vs. Juventus 2/8/20 Italian Serie A Soccer Pick, Odds, and Prediction
2/8/20 2:45 pm
Over 2.5 (-110), Under 2.5 (-110)
Hellas Verona is hosting Juventus at Marc’Antonio Bentegodi Stadium in part of round 23 of Italian Serie A.
Verona has been one of the nicest surprises in Serie A this season and they haven’t lost any of their last 7 games. With 31 points, Verona is in 9th place in the standings and is only 1 point away from the Europa League spot for next season. For a team that got promoted to Serie A this season, amazing result. Verona has been solid offensively, but their defense has been the crown of their season so far and Verona has conceded only 23 goals. In their last Serie A match against one of the best teams in Serie A, Lazio, Verona was great with 48% of ball possession, 3 shots on goal, 7 corner kicks, and 75% of the correct passes. Please have in mind that Lazio has scored 52 goals this season, and yet Verona was able to keep them at bay in this match and the game ended in 0-0. Pazzini, Di Carmine, Verre, Pessina, and Faraoni have all scored 3 goals each for Verona this season. Zaccagni and Lazovic both have 4 assists. Salcedo is the only injured player and he will not be playing. Verona’s only goal before the season started was to stay outside the relegation zone and to stay in Serie A next season, and with that goal, Verona has hired a Croatia expert Ivan Juric as the head coach. Juric and his players have done so much more then it was expected from them and thanks to these good results, Verona can play the rest of the season without pressure and fear of being relegated.
Juventus has been playing well for most of the season and after being behind Inter for quite some time, Juventus is finally at the top of Serie A with 54 points, 3 points ahead of Inter. Juventus has won 6 of their last 7 games and has scored at least 1 goal in all 7 of those games. In their last Serie A match against Fiorentina at home, Juventus was fantastic with 74% of ball possession, 10 corner kicks, 8 shots on goal, and high 91% of accurate passes. It was a good game from Juventus, and they nicely bounced back from an unfortunate loss against Napoli just a few days earlier. Juventus has won this game 3-0. Juventus has scored 43 goals so far this season and 19 of those were scored by Ronaldo who is playing in fantastic goalscoring form. Higuain and Dybala each added 5 goals. Chiellini, Khedira, Demiral, Danilo, and Barrenechea are all injured and will not be in the lineup. Juventus has enough quality in their roster and the coach who is a good tactician in Maurizio Sarri and for that reason, I think that these injuries will not have an impact on Juventus. In the Champions League, Juventus will face Lyon in two weeks in the first round of the knockouts, a team that shouldn’t give them a lot of trouble. As far as the Serie A goes, I don’t think Juventus will defend the title because they will need to sacrifice a few games to be rested in their run in the Champions League. After all, that is their main goal for this season. And on top of that, Inter and Lazio are playing fantastic soccer, I dare to say better than Juventus.
Verona hasn’t had almost any success against Juventus, at home or away. Games between Verona and Juventus usually produce a lot of goals and I expect the same here. Verona is on a nice run in Serie A, but I think that stops in this game because Juventus is the better team and Ronaldo looks unstoppable.
