Over 2.5 (-163), Under 2.5 (+130)
Juventus is welcoming Fiorentina to Allianz Stadium in a derby match of round 22 of Italian Serie A.
Juventus is playing well as of late, and more importantly, Ronaldo is back to his old self, scoring a ton of goals. Juventus has won 5 of their last 7 games and is at the top of Serie A standings with 51 points, 3 points ahead of Inter in second place. Juventus has been struggling offensively at the beginning of the season, but since then, Juventus’ attack has improved a lot and Juventus has scored 40 goals in 21 games. In their last Serie A game against Napoli away from home, Juventus had 49% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 2 corner kicks, and 88% of the correct passes. Overall, Juventus had a solid game, but Napoli had a better game and has won this game 2-1. This was certainly a surprise loss for Juventus and coach Sarri because Napoli hasn’t been playing well for a while now. Juventus has conceded at least 1 goal in 7 of their last 9 goals, but their defense is not as shaky as it was when the season started. Maybe Juventus’ offense is covering for the defensive mistakes, but it’s been working well lately. Cristiano Ronaldo is once again the best player on this team and has scored 17 goals, while Higuain and Dybala each score 5 goals. This huge gap between goal scorers in Juventus might be a problem for them in the long run because if you are going to win the Serie A title or the Champions League, you need more than one striker scoring goals. I’m not saying Juventus doesn’t have good strikers, because they do, but if the coach is focusing on only one player in the team and every single ball is meant for that player, the season will not end well. Chiellini, Khedira, Demiral, and Danilo are all injured, while Can left the club and has joined Borussia Dortmund earlier this week. As I said, Juventus is a good team, with great players, but Ronaldo can’t be the only player in the focus here.
Fiorentina was able to string a few good results together as of late, but they haven’t won any of their last 2 games, one in Serie A, and one in Coppa Italia. Fiorentina is in 13th place in Serie A standings with only 25 points from 21 games. The defense has been decent for Fiorentina this season, but their attack hasn’t been producing enough chances and scoring goals despite the talent they have. In their last Serie A match against Genoa, Fiorentina had only 45% of ball possession, 2 shots on goal, 7 corner kicks, and only 81% of the correct passes. Genoa is a bad team and Fiorentina should have won this game easily, instead, this match ended in a 0-0 draw. Fiorentina did change their coach earlier this season, and the progress is clearly visible, but Fiorentina can do so much more. Vlahovic is Fiorentina’s leading goal scorer with only 4 goals, while Chiesa, Pulgar, Castrovili, and Milenkovic each added 3 goals. Kouame, Ribery, Duncan, Milenkovic, and Caceres are all injured, while Castrovilli and Boateng are still questionable. The only thing that Fiorentina is playing right now is to stay as far as possible from the relegation zone because the European competitions are out of Fiorentina’s reach. I have a feeling that Fiorentina’s management will not be able to keep all the talent they have next season as well, which means next season could be a disaster for this, once great Italian club.
Juventus’ home record this season is 9-1-0, while Fiorentina’s away record is 3-3-4. Juventus is the huge favorite here, and the better team than Fiorentina, there is no doubt about that. This could be a tight game, but I still expect Juventus to win and to stay at the top of Serie A.
