Over 2.5 (-250), Under 2.5 (+200)
Borussia Dortmund is welcoming FC Union Berlin to Signal Iduna Park in round 20 of German Bundesliga.
Man, Borussia is playing fantastic attacking soccer and has scored 10 goals in 2 games, and their latest signing, Erling Braut Haland has scored 5 goals in 2 games since he arrived at Dortmund. The defense is a different story for Borussia, and they are constantly conceding goals and making mistakes they shouldn’t make. The good news for Borussia and coach Favre is that they are one of the best offensive teams in Europe and are capable of beating anyone thanks to that. Borussia Dortmund is in 4th place in Bundesliga standings with 36 points, 51 scored goals, and 28 conceded goals. In their latest Bundesliga match against Koln at home, Borussia was fantastic with 60% of ball possession, 9 shots on goal, 1 corner kick, and 87% of the correct passes. As I said, Borussia is one of the best offensive teams in Germany, and they showed us that once again in this game by winning it 5-1. Sancho has been Borussia’s best player with 11 goals and 11 assists, while Reus added 10 goals. Haland is Borussia’s third-best goal scorer with 5 goals in just 2 games and will certainly play a huge role in Borussia’s chase for the title. Delaney, Schmelzer, and Zagadou are all injured and will not be in the lineup. Borussia will face PSG in the Champions League in a clash between two fantastic teams filled with plenty of attacking talent, but shaky defenses. I really like the way Borussia is playing, and how they are using the entire field to spread their opponents, if only they were capable of playing a bit more consistent defense, Borussia would be at the top of Bundesliga in no time.
Union Berlin is having a solid season and is in 11th place in Bundesliga standings with 23 points, 6 points outside the relegation zone. Union Berlin got promoted to the Bundesliga just this season, so this good result is quite a surprise for Union Berlin. After being winless for four games in a row in Bundesliga, Union Berlin has finally won a match last weekend against Augsburg. Union had 46% of ball possession, only 3 shots on goal, 4 corner kicks, and low 65% of the correct passes. Both Union’s offense and defense stepped up in this game and they won 2-0. After this game against Borussia Dortmund, Union’s schedule is going to be tough, but they can certainly surprise. Anderson has scored 8 goals for Union Berlin so far, while Ingvartsen and Bulter added 4 goals each. Gogia, Dehl, Abdullahi, and Mees are all injured which is certainly going to hurt Union Berlin because they didn’t have the biggest depth even before the injuries. Overall, Union is a solid team on both ends, not the team you can expect from to score 4 or 5 goals in a game, but they get by. Defensively, Union Berlin has been better than some of the top teams in Bundesliga, but the question is how long they can keep that up, and if coach Fischer can keep the players in good form. Union Berlin is also playing in the DFB Pokal’s top 16 where they will face SC Verl, a lower division team.
Dortmund’s home record this season is 6-3-0, while Union’s away record is 1-2-6. This match against Union Berlin is a perfect opportunity for Dortmund to finally keep the clean sheet because Union Berlin is not a team that is creating a lot of chances. Union Berlin has beaten Borussia Dortmund at the beginning of the season at home, but I just don’t see that happening here. Borussia is too dangerous offensively, and Union Berlin doesn’t have the defense to stop them.
