Over 2.5 (+130), Under 2.5 (-163)
Atletico Madrid is welcoming Leganes to Estadio Wanda Metropolitano in round 21 of Spanish LaLiga.
We knew Atletico Madrid has been in a slump as of late, and that got even deeper after they lost their Copa del Rey match earlier this week against Cultural Leonesa, a team that is playing in Spanish third division. Atletico is in third place in LaLiga standings with 35 points, 8 points behind Real Madrid and Barcelona in the second and first place. Atletico has been good on the defensive end, but only 22 scored goals are not enough for the team of Atletico’s caliber. In their last LaLiga match against Eibar last weekend, Atletico was solid with 61% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 7 corner kicks, and 75% of the correct passes. It seems this should have been an easy game for Atletico Madrid, but once again their lack of offense and offensive imagination came through and Atletico lost 2-0. Alvaro Morata has scored 7 goals for Atletico Madrid so far this season, Correa added 3 goals and 4 assists. Diego Costa, Koke, Gimenez, and Trippier are all injured and that is the problem for coach Simeone because clearly, this team is not playing well without some of those players. Joao Felix who was signed by Atletico last summer started the season great, but soon after everything went downhill, and Felix is not playing good soccer and is not doing anything to show us that he was worth all of that money. In the Champions League, Atletico Madrid will face Liverpool, and unless Simeone doesn’t improve his team’s attack, this will be a disaster for Atletico Madrid.
Leganes has been playing well as of late and is slowly winning points to stay in the fight for their lives in Serie A. Leganes has lost only 1 of their last 5 LaLiga games and has won both of their Copa del Rey games in the last 2 weeks. Leganes is in 19th place in LaLiga standings with 14 points, 4 points away from Mallorca who is just outside the relegation zone. Since the beginning of the season, nothing has been good in Leganes, not their offense, not their defense, or their game style overall. Leganes has scored only 16 goals in 20 games while conceding 33 goals, but the good news is that all of that is improving as of late and Leganes once again has the confidence that they will stay in LaLiga. In their last LaLiga match against Getafe at home, Leganes had 61% of ball possession, 2 shots on goal, 4 corner kicks, and 70% of accurate passes. The first half was a disaster for Leganes where they conceded 3 goals and the result hasn’t changed until the end of the game. After stringing a few nice wins together, all of the Leganes’ problems resurfaced in this match once again. Braithwaite has scored 6 goals for Leganes, En-Nesyri and Oscar added 4 goals each. Szymanowski, Siovas, and Perez are injured, and coach Aguirre will not have them at his disposal for this match. Leganes is a solid team and I was expecting them to be right where they are before the season started, simply because they don’t have the depth to compete with rest of the teams in LaLiga, and to make it harder for Leganes, both Celta Vigo and Espanyol, teams that are in the relegation zone alongside Leganes, are much better teams than Leganes and for that reason, I think Leganes will get relegated at the end of this season.
I think this will be a very tight game between two teams that are not playing well in the attacking end. I don’t expect goals in this matchup, neither do bookies apparently which is bad for us. I think that Atletico Madrid will win this game, but I gotta do something about the odds here.
