Over 2.5 (-125), Under 2.5 (+100)
Manchester United is hosting Burnley at Old Trafford in round 24 of the English Premier League.
Manchester has been playing better as of late, but the problem for them now is that Marcus Rashford who is their best player and a top goal scorer with 14 goals in injured. Manchester United has won 2 and lost 2 of their last 4 games. In their last EPL match against Liverpool this past weekend, United wasn’t good. Manchester United had 47% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 5 corner kicks, and 79% of accurate passes. United did create some chances in this match, but once again their defense has been catastrophic and United has lost this match 2-0. United is in 5th place in the EPL standings with 34 points, and still only 5 points behind Chelsea in 4th place, the last spot that leads to Champions League next season. Rojo, Tuanzebe, McTominay, and Pogba are all injured alongside Rashford, while Fosu-Mensah is still questionable. United is also playing in the Europa League where they will face Club Brugge, and in my opinion, United must go all in to win this competition because the winner is going to the Champions League no matter which place they end up on in their league. I’m not saying that it will be easy to win this competition, but United has a solid, young team that can score a lot of goals. Martial has scored 8 goals for United so far and he is the player that must step up now when Rashford is injured. United has only 1 loss at home this season and this game is a must-win for them.
Burnley has been solid this season and is in 14th place in the EPL standings with 27 points. After four straight losses in the EPL, Burnley has finally played a good game against Leicester City last weekend. Burnley had 44% of ball possession in that game, 5 shots on goal, 4 corner kicks, and 73% of accurate passes. Burnley was losing at the half-time, but they were able to turn things around in the second half and win this match 2-1. This was a precious win for Burnley because with these three points they stayed away from the teams that are fighting to stay outside the relegation zone. Burnley has scored 26 goals so far this season which isn’t bad, but like the rest of the average EPL teams, Burnley’s defense is a disaster with 38 conceded goals. Chris Wood is playing in good form and is Burnley’s leading goal scorer with 9 goals. Ashley Barnes added 6 goals, but he is injured and will not be in the lineup. Gudmundsson is also injured. Burnley is a solid team, and Sean Dyche is a pretty good coach, and because of that, I think that Burnley will be a few spots outside the relegation zone and will play in the EPL again next season as well. Burnley is also playing in the FA Cup where they will face Norwich City next week. Burnley is 2-3-6 away from home this season with only 10 scored goals and 20 conceded goals. For the last few seasons Burnley was the team that prided itself with strong defense, but this season their defense is their biggest issues and that is something coach Dyche must fix.
When playing at home, United hasn’t lost any of their last 5 games against Burnley, but the last 3 of those 5 ended in a draw. United is playing well at home this season, while Burnley is not convincing while playing away from home. All that being said, I think that Manchester gets the three points here to stay in pursuit of Chelsea.
