Over 2.5 (-163), Under 2.5 (+130)
Chelsea is hosting Arsenal at Stamford Bridge in the London derby of round 24 of the English Premier League.
Chelsea has been hot and cold for the last 2 months which is expected from such a young team. After 3 wins and a draw, Chelsea lost the game where they were the dominant and better team but unfortunately couldn’t score a goal. In this game against Newcastle this past weekend, Chelsea had huge 70% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 10 corner kicks, and 85% of the correct passes. Chelsea was pressuring and pressuring, but they just couldn’t find the way to the net, and then in 94th minute Newcastle scored a goal out of nothing and Chelsea lost this match 1-0. Chelsea is in 4th place in the standings with 39 points, 39 scored goals, and 30 conceded goals, and that is Chelsea’s biggest problem. Their defense has been inconsistent this season, but I have faith that coach Lampard is capable of fixing the issues, and with a few additions to the team, Chelsea will be a contestant for the EPL title. Tammy Abraham has scored 13 goals for Chelsea this season, but the same as the whole Chelsea team, Abraham has also been inconsistent, but he is the 22-year-old striker playing in the best soccer league in the world. Van Ginkel, Loftus-Cheek, and Pulisic are injured and will not be in the lineup for this match. For now, Chelsea is in the position that will take them to Champions League next season, but the competition for that last spot is really tough. As far as this season’s Champions League goes, Chelsea will play against Bayern Munich and I’m not giving Chelsea a lot of chances because Bayern is a strong and more experienced team.
Even after the arrival of Mikel Arteta as the new head coach, Arsenal is still struggling, but playing better soccer overall. Arsenal hasn’t lost any of their last 4 games, but they won only 2, and 1 of those was in the FA Cup against Leeds. In their last EPL game against Sheffield United, Arsenal 61% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 4 corner kicks, 81% of the correct passes and a 1-0 lead at the half – time. Unfortunately for Arsenal, their defense couldn’t stop all of Sheffield’s attacks and the game ended in a 1-1 draw. Arsenal is in 10th place in the EPL standings with 29 points. Offensively, Arsenal is solid with 30 scored goals in 23 games, but with 32 conceded goals, Arsenal is a defensive disaster. Improvement is clearly visible since the coaching change, but it’s still far from where it’s expected to be. In the Europa League, Arsenal will play against Olympiacos in the first round of the knockouts and I’m confident that Arsenal can win this matchup, but the defense must improve. Europa League is the only way for Arsenal to go to the Champions League next season because I don’t see Arsenal climbing the EPL standings all the way to 4th place. Aubameyang has been playing in good form this season and has scored 14 goals for Arsenal, but he is still suspended due to the red card. Tierney is the only injured player and will not be in the lineup. Kolasinac and Chambers are still questionable but should be ready for this match. Arsenal isn’t a bad team and I think they have the quality to be in the top four in the EPL, but the problem that Arteta must fix is Arsenal’s defense. Sokratis, Mustafi, and David Luiz were solid defenders at one point in their careers, but they are not the Premier League material anymore.
The home team has dominated this matchup and I think the same will happen here. I wouldn’t say that the quality is on Chelsea’s side, but the form and consistency is. Aubameyang is suspended and without him, Arsenal is struggling massively in the attacking end. I will take Chelsea here.
