Over 2.5 (-250), Under 2.5 (+200)
Hertha BSC is hosting Bayern Munich at Olympiastadion in part of round 18 of German Bundesliga.
Hertha has been struggling for the bigger part of the season, but they are undefeated in their last 4 Bundesliga games. Hertha has won 19 points from 17 games and is in 12th place in Bundesliga standings. Hertha is an average Bundesliga team with 22 scored goals, and 29 conceded goals and I don’t see them ending the season much higher than they are right now. In their latest Bundesliga game against M’gladbach at home, Hertha was forced to defend for most of the match against one of the best teams in Bundesliga this season. Hertha had 40% of ball possession, 0 shots on goal, 1 corner kick, and 74% of the correct passes. Hertha’s defense was able to defend and M’gladbach’s vicious attacks and the game ended in a 0-0 draw. Lukebakio is Hertha’s top goalscorer with 4 goals, while Ibisevic, Dilrosun, Darida, and Grujic all have 3 goals. Thomas Kraft is the only injured player and will not be in the lineup. Hertha might not play attractive soccer, but brighter days are coming because everything is changing since German soccer legend Jurgen Klinsmann was signed as the head coach back in November. First of all, Hertha is playing much better soccer on the defensive end and they are capable of keeping their sheet clean. Secondly, Hertha’s midfield is much more compact and can control the flow of the ball when they have to. The offense is the next thing Klinsmann must fix because Hertha certainly has good enough players to score more goals.
Bayern Munich has been in solid form before the Christmas break and is one of the best teams in Bundesliga overall. With 33 points, massive 46 scored goals, and 22 conceded goals, Bayern is in third place in Bundesliga standings, just 4 points behind Leipzig at the top. Bayern is undefeated in their last 3 Bundesliga game and has scored 11 goals during that streak while conceding only 2 goals. In their last Bundesliga match before the Christmas break, Bayern was playing against Wolfsburg at home and was a much better team. Bayern had 68% of ball possession, 8 shots on goal, 12 corner kicks, and 86% of accurate passes. Bayern was struggling big time in the attacking end in this match, but they were able to score two late goals and Bayern has won this match 2-0. Lewandowski has scored huge 19 goals in 17 games for Bayern and is one of the top goal scorers in Europe, Gnarby and Coutinho added 6 goals each. Thomas Muller has 10 assists. Arp, Coma, and Cuisance are injured alongside Hernandez and Sule who are close to recovery. Bayern has played a friendly game a few days ago and lost 5-2, but that is a game that doesn’t mean anything and was just played to get players back in shape and to try some new things. In the Champions League, Bayern will play against Chelsea, and even though I think Bayern will emerge victoriously, it will be extremely hard because Chelsea is playing really well. As far as Bundesliga goes, it’s finally interesting and there are more than 2 teams competing for the title and I don’t think that Bayern will defend the title from last season, It’s time for someone else to step up.
Hertha had a few good results at home against Bayern before and they are certainly capable of surprising Bayern again with the new head coach. I think Bayern gets the job done here, and Lewandowski continues his fantastic goalscoring form.
