Barcelona is welcoming Granada to Camp Nou in part of round 20 of Spanish LaLiga.

There has been a lot of turbulence in Barcelona over the last 2 weeks, and all of that escalated after Barcelona lost their semifinals match against Atletico Madrid in Spanish Super Cup. After that loss, Barcelona’s management and coach Valverde had a meeting to discuss what happened and how will they proceed. In the meantime, Barcelona’s general manager went to Qatar to meet with Xavi, former Barcelona’s player and the current coach of a team in Qatar. Xavi was offered to take over Barcelona from Valverde who was fired, but Xavi refused. Instead of Xavi, Barcelona has hired Quique Setien, a really good coach who should bring a dose of defensive improvement and consistency to this Barcelona team who is in desperate need of defensive improvement before the Champions League starts again. In LaLiga, Barcelona is in 1st place with 40 points, 49 scored goals, and 23 conceded goals. Barcelona is undefeated in LaLiga since early November and is playing well in this competition. In their last LaLiga match against Espanyol away from home, Barcelona was the better team with 69% of ball possession, 7 shots on goal, 5 corner kicks, and 89% of the correct passes. I the attacking part, Barcelona was dominant, but defensively once again Barcelona made a lot of mistakes and it cost them in the end. This game ended in a 2-2 draw. Messi is playing good, but still far from his best but despite that he leads Barcelona with 13 goals and 6 assists, while Suarez added 11 goals and 7 assists. Unfortunate news for Barcelona is that Suarez is injured and will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury. De Jong is suspended because of the red card, while Dembele is close to recovery and should be back in a couple of weeks. Valverde did win 4 trophies since he became Barcelona’s head coach, but he was never the right choice for this team in my opinion. Setien, on the other hand, is a coach that will improve this team in every aspect, and I think he will do a good job while he is at the helm of this team.

Granada has been hot and cold so far this season and is in 10th place in the standings at the moment with 27 points, 25 scored goals, and 25 conceded goals. In their last LaLiga match against Mallorca at home, Granada was solid with 41% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 3 corner kicks, and 75% of the correct passes. It doesn’t seem like it, but Granada was in control of this match and has won 1-0. Puertas has scored 4 goals for Granada so far, while Vadillo and Fernandez have each added 3 goals. Victor Diaz has 5 assists. Lozano, Vico, Quini, Herrera, and Montoro are all injured and will not be playing in this game. Granada is a decent team with big potential for next season, but this season I see them ending the season right here where they are now, maybe a spot or two lower in the standings. LaLiga is a tough league and the competition is strong especially this season and Granada will have to invest some money to buy good players if they want to stay in LaLiga in the next few years.

Barcelona hasn’t lost while playing at home against Granada in their last 6 games, and Barcelona hasn’t lost any of their last 33 home games overall. I think that Barcelona’s players will be eager to redeem themselves for that unfortunate loss against Atletico Madrid and I believe everyone will play on a higher level to prove themselves to the new coach.
