Over 2.5 (-188), Under 2.5 (+150)
Manchester United is hosting Norwich City at Old Trafford in round 22 of the English Premier League.
Just when I think that Manchester has turned the page and started playing better soccer, they lose 2 of their last 3 games. In the EPL, United is in the 5th place with 31 points, 32 scored goals, and 25 conceded goals. It’s not that United is not winning games, because they do, but the problem is their inconsistency on both ends, and the games they do win, Manchester isn’t convincing as they should be. In their last EPL match against Arsenal, Manchester United had 52% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 4 corner kicks, and 85% of the correct passes. United’s defense was a joke in this game, and they made a lot of mistakes again. Despite solid second half, United couldn’t score a goal and they lost this match 0-2. Rashford has scored 12 goals for United this season, while Martial who is playing in good form and is getting better with every game has scored 7 goals. Young star Daniel James added 6 assists. Baily, Fosu-Mensah, Rojo, and McTominay are all injured. Manchester United is playing against Blub Brugge in the Europa League, and winning that competition is the only way for United to qualify for the Champions League because I don’t trust that United can end the season in the top 4 of the EPL.
After 8 games without a win, Norwich has finally won a game in the FA Cup last weekend against Preston North End. In the EPL, Norwich is in the last place with only 14 points and I don’t see them staying in the EPL next season. Offensively, Norwich is good, and they can score a goal against any team, but their defense is really bad, and Norwich has conceded 41 goals in 21 games. That is an average of almost 2 conceded goals per game. In their latest EPL match against Crystal Palace at home, Norwich had only 40% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 2 corner kicks, and 81% of the correct passes. It was a solid match for Norwich, a match they should have won but their defense failed to stop Crystal Palace’s offense and the game ended in 1-1 draw. Teemu Pukki has scored 9 goals for Norwich this season, while Cantwell added 6 goals and 2 assists. Timm Klose, Josip Drmic, and Ben Godfrey are important players that could help Norwich in this tough time, but unfortunately, all of them are injured. Norwich’s record this season is 3 wins, 5 draws, and 13 losses and they are the worst defensive team in the EPL, by far. Norwich is definitely capable of scoring some goals, but to keep the ball out of their net, that is a different beast. Norwich was able to keep the clean sheet in only 1 game and I just don’t see a way that coach Farke can do anything to get his defense going. The difference in quality between Norwich and most of the other teams is obvious and that is the main reason why I don’t see Norwich in the EPL next season.
Norwich has had very little success against Manchester United, at home or away. Norwich’s away record so far this season is 1-2-7, while Manchester’s home record is 5-4-1. When United and Norwich meet there are usually a lot of goals scored and I expect the same in this match as well. Even though Manchester United isn’t playing well consistently, I can’t side with this bad Norwich team.
