Lazio vs. Napoli 1/11/20 Italian Serie A Soccer Pick, Odds, and Prediction
1/11/20 12 pm
Over 2.5 (-175), Under 2.5 (+137)
Lazio is hosting Napoli at Stadio Olimpico in a derby match of round 19 of Italian Serie A.
Lazio is one of the best teams in Serie A this season and is a legit contestant for the title. With 39 points, massive 40 scored goals, and only 17 conceded goals, Lazio is in 3rd place in the Serie A standings. Lazio is on a 3-game winning streak and has scored 7 goals during that stretch while conceding 3 goals. Lazio is undefeated in Serie A since late September of last year and they will look to continue this great run. In their latest Serie A game against Brescia away from home, Lazio was a much better team with 64% of ball possession, 6 shots on goal, 5 corner kicks, and 88% of the correct passes. Lazio was losing from 18th minute but was able to tie the game before the half time from the penalty kick. Ciro Immobile who scored said penalty kick scored a winning goal in 91st minute. Immobile is playing in the best form of his life and Lazio’s, and Serie A’s leading goal scorer with 19 goals in 17 games. Luis Alberto has 10 assists. Jordan Lukaku and Denis Vavro are both injured and will not be in the lineup. I was a bit skeptical about coach Inzaghi last season, and I wasn’t sure if he has what it takes to take this team a step further, he clearly does and I’m glad I was wrong because Serie A is finally interesting again. Lazio got knocked out of the Europa League which might be a piece of the good news for them because they will be playing in only 1 competition, and their main competitors Juventus and Inter are playing in three competitions.
Napoli is not playing well and has won only 2 of their last 13 games. In their last Serie A match against Inter at home, Napoli had 56% of ball possession, 7 shots on goal, 3 corner kicks, and 88% of accurate passes. This wasn’t a good game for Napoli, and they lost this game 1-3. Napoli has only 24 points from 18 games and in 8th place in the standings. Offensively, Napoli is solid with 28 scored goals, but with 25 conceded goals Napoli doesn’t deserve to be in the top 4. Napoli had ambitions to take the title from Juventus this season, but that is not going to happen with the way they are playing. Napoli has fired coach Ancelotti earlier this season, one of the most successful coaches in the history of this game and replaced him with a Gattuso. Sure, Gattuso was a great, charismatic player who outran everyone he played against, but he is not the coach you want if you want to compete for the title, at least not yet. Napoli got qualified to the knockouts of the Champions League and will play against Barcelona, and if they don’t fix their problems on the defensive end, I’m not giving Napoli a lot of chances to qualify to quarterfinals. Milik has bee playing good so far in the season and has scored 7 goals for Napoli, while Mertens has 4 goals. Malcuit and Koulibaly who is Napoli's best defender are injured and will not be in the lineup. Since Gattuso was signed as the head coach, there was no progress in Napoli, and if something doesn’t change drastically, I suspect he will get fired at the end of the season.
Lazio hasn’t won any of their last 8 home games against Napoli and any of their last 8 games overall. In this matchup, I expect goals, a lot of them, but I also expect a win from Lazio.
