Over 2.5 (-138), Under 2.5 (+110)
Crystal Palace is hosting Arsenal at Selhurst Park in part of round 22 of the English Premier League.
Crystal Palace can’t get any consistency this season and because of that, they are in 9th place in the EPL standings with 28 points and only 19 scored goals in 21 games. Crystal Palace hasn’t won any of their last 3 games, including their last 2 in the EPL. In their latest EPL match versus Norwich away from home, Crystal Palace had 60% of ball possession, 3 shots on goal, 5 corner kicks, and 81% of accurate passes. Overall, this wasn’t a bad game for Crystal Palace despite conceding a goal in 4th minute. In the second half, Crystal Palace was a much better team and they were able to score a goal in 85th minute and the game ended in 1-1 draw. Crystal Palace is a disaster on the defensive end this season and they have conceded at least 1 goal in their last 6 games. Jordan Ayew is the leading goal scorer for Crystal Palace with 5 goals, Zaha is following with 3 goals and 2 assists. Ward, Schlupp, Cahill, Townsend, and Benteke are all injured and that is a big problem for coach Hodgson because Crystal Palace wasn’t overly deep team even before the injuries, but now they basically don’t have any depth. Zaha was supposed to be the leader of this team this season which was expected after the year that is behind him, but instead, Zaha is inconsistent, in bad form and is not helping his team as he should. There were a lot of rumors as of late that Zaha has decided to leave Crystal Palace, and Milan is the team he might end up in.
Arsenal has shown signs of life in their last 2 games with two nice wins, one in the EPL and one in the FA Cup. In their last EPL game against Manchester United at home, Arsenal was solid with 48% of ball possession, 4 shots on goals, 1 corner kick, and 85% of the correct passes. The first half was good for Arsenal and they scored 2 goals. In the second half, Arsenal was forced to defend and endure Manchester’s attacks, but Arsenal’s defense was playing really well, and Arsenal has won this game 2-0. With 27 points from 21 games, Arsenal is in 10th place in the EPL standings, but the difference between Arsenal in 10th, and Manchester United in 5th place is only 4 points. Offensively, Arsenal has been good with 28 scored goals, but Arsenal’s defense is a disaster and they conceded 30 goals in 21 games. Aubameyang has scored 13 goals for Arsenal this season and is their best player, but the problem for Arsenal’s new coach Mikel Arteta is that if Arsenal will not qualify for the Champions League, Aubameyang will leave. Arsenal is playing in the Europa League, and their first knockout game is against Olympiacos. Arsenal must go all-in in the Europa League because the winner of this competition is getting qualified for the Champions League, and that might be the only way for Arsenal to get there. Tierney is the only injured player for Arsenal, and he will not be in the lineup for this game. The progress in Arsenal is visible since the arrival of Mikel Arteta as the head coach, but there is still a lot of work to do. The first thing Arsenal’s management must do is to sign 2 good, experienced defenders, and 2 midfielders because those are the positions where Arsenal is weakest. I don’t think that Arsenal will get to the top four in the EPL, but I like their chances in the Europa League.
Crystal Palace has had very little success against Arsenal, both at home and away. Taking into consideration all the injuries, form, game style and team depth, I must side with Arsenal despite Crystal Palace being the home team. Crystal Palace is a good team, but Arsenal seems to be waking up and getting the hang of the season.
