Over 2.5 (-110), Under 2.5 (-110)
Cagliari is welcoming Milan to Sardegna Arena in round 19 of Italian Serie A.
Cagliari is the nicest surprise in Serie A this season. With 29 points, 33 scored goals, and 27 conceded goals, Cagliari is in 6th place in the Serie A standings. Throughout late October, the whole of November and December, Cagliari was playing fantastic soccer and was unbeaten for 9 games in Serie A and Coppa Italia. For the last 4 games in Serie A Cagliari was struggling on the defensive end and is now on a 3-game losing streak. In each of their last 4 games, Cagliari has conceded at least 2 goals, while scoring 4 goals in total in those 4 games. In their last Serie A match against Juventus last weekend, Cagliari had only 36% of ball possession, 1 shot on goal, 2 corner kicks, and 85% of the correct passes. This was a bad game for Cagliari and the difference in quality between Juventus and Cagliari was too big. Cagliari has lost this match 4-0. Offensively, Cagliari was fantastic this season with 33 scored goals, and Joao Pedro has scored 11 of those 33, while Simeone added 5 goals. Cragno and Pavoletti are injured and will not be in the lineup. I was surprised as anyone with Cagliari’s success this season, however, this drop in form was expected because Cagliari simply doesn’t have the depth to keep the good form going. Now, I’m not saying that Cagliari can’t turn things around and stay this high in the standings, but for that to happen players like Nainggolan, Rog, Simeone, and Pellegrini must lead their teammates and take most of the load upon themselves.
Loud and clear, Milan is a disaster. Without a win in their last 3 Serie A games, and with 0 scored goals during that stretch, Milan is now in 11th place in the standings with only 22 points from 18 games. Defensively, Milan isn’t that bad with 24 conceded goals, but with only 16 scored goals in 18 games, Milan is one of the worst teams in Serie A and I would be embarrassed if I was the player of this team. In their last Serie A match against Sampdoria at home, Milan was the better team with 68% of ball possession, 7 shots on goal, 7 corner kicks, and 84% of accurate passes. Overall, it was a good game for Milan, but once again their offense failed to score a goal and the game ended in a 0-0 draw. Milan’s struggles continue. You know that the team is bad when the defender Theo Hernandez is your top goal scorer with 4 goals. Piatek also added 4 goals. Leo Duarte is the only injured player for Milan. I’m not saying that this goalscoring crisis is only strikers’ fault because they need to get the ball from someone, and at this time, there is no one in Milan that can do that consistently. Encouraging news for all Milan fans is that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is back! Even though he is 38 years old, Ibrahimovic still has something to give at the highest level of soccer. Ibrahimovic is expected to start in this match and Milan’s chances to score a goal have instantly improved. In this January transfer window, Milan’s management must sign 2 really good, experienced midfielders who are capable of feeding the strikers with great passes, and coach Pioli must do everything he can to improve the efficiency. Or better yet, Milan should find a new coach, maybe Pocchetino who would do great in Serie A in my opinion.
Cagliari has won only 3 games against Milan in the past, with the last one being back in 2017., but Cagliari and Milan are different teams now. With Cagliari being this good this season I would give them a time of the day, but Cagliari is in a really bad form right now, and Milan is due for a win with Ibrahimovic in the lineup. I will sign with Milan.
