Atletico Madrid vs. Levante 1/4/20 Spanish LaLiga Soccer Pick, Odds, and Prediction
1/4/20 12:30 pm
Over 2.5 (-150), Under 2.5 (+120)
Atletico Madrid is hosting Levante at Estadio Wanda Metropolitano on round 19 of Spanish LaLiga.
Atletico was hot and cold this season, mostly thanks to their lack of offense because they scored only 20 goals in 18 LaLiga games. With only 11 conceded goals, Atletico is the best defensive team in LaLiga and in Europe. Alvaro Morata is the top goal scorer for Atletico Madrid with 7 goals and he is playing in solid form. Costa, Vitolo, Koke, and Vrsaljko are injured and will not be playing, while Savic has recovered and will once again be paired with Gimenez as two central defenders. In their last LaLiga match versus Betis away from home, Atletico had only 33% of ball possession, 5 shots on goal, 3 corner kicks, and 77% of accurate passes. Despite low ball possession, Atletico was able to create a lot of good chances and this was one of the few games they actually played better offense than defense. Atletico Madrid has won this game 1-2. With 32 points, Atletico Madrid is 4th place in LaLiga standings. In the Champions League, Atletico will play versus Liverpool in the first round of the knockouts, and I’m not liking their chances because Liverpool is playing fantastic soccer. There is no way that Atletico can catch up to Barcelona in LaLiga, not unless coach Simeone turns the page and Atletico starts playing more attacking soccer and scoring a lot more goals.
Levante is an average LaLiga team who is actually having a decent season. With 26 points, 25 scored goals, and 27 conceded goals, Levante is in 9th place in the standings. Levante has won their last 3 games and has scored 10 goals during that stretch while conceding only 2 goals. In their latest LaLiga match versus Celta Vigo at home, Levante had 48% of ball possession, 7 shots on goal, 8 corner kicks, and 80% of the correct passes. The first half of this match was a disaster for Levante, and they were losing 0-1 at half time. In the second half Levante came out to the filed determined to win this match and they were able to score 3 goals and win this match 3-1. Marti Roger has scored 8 goals for Levante so far, while Mayoral added 4 goals. Pier, Lopez, Melero, Vezo, and Duarte are all injured which is not good for coach Paco Lopez because Levante needs as much depth they can get in this extremely competitive LaLiga this season. Levante is playing in only 2 competitions this season, LaLiga, and Copa del Rey which is not yet to tough because Levante is playing against teams from Spanish lower leagues. Levante is 3-0-6 away from home this season, and they scored 10 goals while conceding massive 17 goals which is an average of almost 2 conceded goals per game. Offensively, Levante has been solid, even better than some top 5 teams in LaLiga, but their defense is something that must improve because I don’t think that Levante will be able to stay this high in the standings with some many conceded goals.
Atletico Madrid hasn’t lost any of their last 10 home games versus Levante, while Atletico’s home record is 5-3-1 so far this season. Atletico is the better team here, and while Levante is playing some solid soccer as of late, I don’t think they can string together 4 wins in a row. Atletico’s defense is complete and healthy, and their offense seems to be clicking much better than it was at the beginning of the season. I will side with Atletico here.
