1/1/20 7:30 am
Over 2.5 (-138), Under 2.5 (+110)
Brighton & Hove Albion is welcoming Chelsea to Amex Stadium in round 21 of the English Premier League.
Brighton is doing good in the EPL this season despite having only 2 wins in their last 9 games. With 23 points, 24 scored goals, and 28 conceded goals, Brighton is in 14th place in the standings and is safe outside the relegation zone, for now. In their latest EPL game versus Bournemouth at home, Brighton had 55% of ball possession, 6 shots on goal, 9 corner kicks, and 83% of the correct passes. This was one of the best games this season for Brighton and they won 2-0. Maupay has scored 7 goals for Brighton this season, while Webster has 3 goals, and Gross added 4 assists. Izquierdo and March are the only 2 injured players for Brighton. Brighton has shown us that they are capable of scoring goals, but defensively, Brighton hasn’t been on the expected level. Brighton has conceded 14 goals in their last 9 games while scoring 9 goals in 9 games. Half of the season is gone, and so far, Brighton is doing good, and their only goal was to stay outside the relegation zone. We are yet to see if Brighton can get some consistency in the second half of the season to strengthen their position in the standings because the difference between Brighton in 14th place and Aston Villa in 18th place is only 5 points.
Chelsea has been hot and cold for the last month where they lacked consistency and offensive effectiveness they had at the beginning of the season. With 35 points, 35 scored goals, and 28 conceded goals, Chelsea is in 4th place in the EPL standings, last spot that leads to Champions League next season. During the last four EPL games, Chelsea has 2 losses and 2 wins with 4 scored goals, and 4 conceded goals. In their last EPL match versus Arsenal away from home, Chelsea had 58% of ball possession, 4 shots on goal, 3 corner kicks, and 84% of the correct passes. Chelsea was the better team, especially in the second half and they won 1-2 with 2 goals in the last 10 minutes of the game. The first 30 minutes of the game were bad for Chelsea where they couldn’t string a few passes together, but with Jorginho coming into the game in 34th minute everything changed for Chelsea. They got more confident, calm, and gained more possession and took control of the game. After a few games without a goal, Abraham finally scored a goal and now has 12 goals so far this season, Pulisic and Mount each added 5 goals. Van Ginkel and Loftus-Cheek are still injured while James is listed and questionable. After a nice win against Arsenal, everyone in, and around the club is filled with confidence and faith that Chelsea can finally string two wins together in front of the FA Cup break this weekend. Coach Lampard must do everything to keep his team in the form before the Champions League, because Chelsea is playing against Bayern in the first round of the knockouts, and Bayern will be a tough opponent to beat.
Brighton has won only 1 of their 6 games against Chelsea, and that was at home in 2012. Brighton is not playing well, and this is the opportunity for Chelsea to string two wins together and to get some consistency. It would be a shame if Chelsea would gamble this great opportunity away.
