Columbus Crew SC and the Chicago Fire face off in a big-time MLS showdown at the Columbus Crew Stadium.
The Chicago Fire had high expectations heading into the MLS is back tournament they didn’t have a whole lot of success inside the bubble. In the first game inside the bubble against the Seattle Sounder,s the Fire were impressive winning 2-1. The defense was strong in that game and the offense did enough to come away with a victory. There was a lot of confidence after that game, but that’s when everything turned around. In the second game against the San Jose Earthquakes, the offense really struggled not getting any shots in the back of the net. In the third game it was much of the same with the offense really struggling. They actually dominated most of the game with 62 percent of the possession and had 27 shots with five on goal, but then didn’t go into the back of the net. In this game the Fire need to find a way to get the offense going or it’s going to be another long game that ends in a loss.
On the other side of this matchup is Columbus Crew SC who found a lot of success inside the bubble, but they were knocked out in the round of 16. During the group stage the Columbus Crew didn’t give up any goals. In the first game, the Crew’s offense was elite against FC Cincinnati putting up four goals and that led to an easy victory. In the next two games, the Crew beat the New York Red Bulls and Atlanta United.
In the group stage against Minnesota United, they played to a 1-1 draw during regular time, but in penalty shootouts, a couple of missed kicks was the difference as they lost.
The Crew’s defense was good in the last game and that is going to be the case again in this game. Look for the Crew to not give up a goal and that will be enough as they come away with a victory. In terms of the total it's lean to the under.
