Lyon takes on Bayern Munich in a UEFA Champions League semi-final matchup from the Estadio Jose Alvalade on Wednesday afternoon.
Lyon continued their dream run to the semi-finals after picking up a 3-1 win over Manchester City in their last game. In the win over Man City, Maxwel Cornet put Lyon 1-0 in front in the 24th minute, and the lead held through the half and well into the second half where Manchester City tied the game at one. Moussa dembele restored the lead for Lyon in stunning fashion in the 79th and Dembele added another for insurance, completing his brace by putting Lyon 3-1 ahead in the 87th. Man City would press to get back into the game, but it was too little too late as Lyon held on for a massive victory.
Bayern Munich on the other hand, sent shockwaves through Europe after dismantling Barcelona by a final score of 8-2 in their last fixture. Thomas Muller opened the scoring for Bayern in the 4th minute but David Alaba would concede an own goal for Bayern just three minutes later to tie the game at one. Ivan Perisic, Serge Gnabry and Thomas Muller (again) all scored in a span of nine minutes to put Bayern Munich up 4-1 in the 31st minute. Barcelona would pull a goal back in the 57th, but Joshua Kimmich would restore the three-goal cushion just six minutes later. Robert Lewandoski pushed it to 6-2 in the 82nd, before Philippe Coutinho struck twice in four minutes in the 85th and 89th minutes to make the 8-2 scoreline that would hold up at full time.
I’m a bit concerned that Bayern Munich may look past Lyon the same way Manchester City appeared to and next you know, the Citizens are bounced form the tournament and here Lyon is. However, Bayern sent a message in that win against Barcelona, and Munich just looks like a team on a mission to complete the treble with the Bundesliga, Pokal Cup and a Champions League title to put the cherry on top. The bottom line is that Bayern’s been pretty much unstoppable and while Lyon’s dream run was nice, it comes to an end here. I think we see quite a bit of scoring, at least from Bayern, so give me Bayern Munich to win and over 3.5 goals as my pick for this game.
