Sevilla takes on Manchester United in a UEFA Europa League semi-final matchup from the RheinEnergieStadion on Sunday afternoon.
Sevilla booked their spot in the semis by virtue of a narrow 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in their quarter-final matchup. In the win over Wolves, Sevilla dodged a bullet when Raul Jimenez for Wolves would take a penalty in the 13th but Sevilla’s goalkeeper stood tall and picked up the save which would prove to be a big moment later in the match. The second half remained scoreless as well, but Lucas Ocampos would fire Sevilla in front in the 88th minute and that was all she wrote as Wolves scrambled for an equalizing goal that never came while Sevilla booked their ticket to take on the Red Devils of Manchester.
Manchester United on the other hand, punched their ticket to the semi-finals after what many would consider a surprising 1-0 win over Copenhagen last time out. Not surprising that United won or were there, but that Copenhagen stifled the English giants to narrowly miss out on advancing to the semi-finals. In the win over Copenhagen, United would have a goal disallowed right before halftime as it was determined that Mason Greenwood was offside in the buildup to United’s opening goal. The second half saw no scoring either, so it was off to extra time where Bruno Fernandes converted from the penalty spot for United in the 95th minute, and the Red Devils would carry that goal to the finish line as the game’s only marker at the full time whistle.
Sevilla are more than capable of stepping up to the big boys and producing a result, I mean just ask Manchester City what it’s like to be the odds on favorite going into a game and having the rug swept out from underneath you and watching your opponent move on to the semis. I don’t think United suffer the same fate here as this is just a talented team and I think that Man Y comes out firing here so I’ll side with the Red Devils of Manchester United to qualify for the final as I could see this one going to extra time or penalties as well.
