RB Leipzig and Atletico Madrid face off in the first leg of a UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie from the José Alvalade Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
RB Leipzig have had an odd season but they have to feel good about their chances coming into this game. The last game for Leipzig came against Wolfsburg, a game they played to a 1-1 draw. The last game in the Champions League came against Tottenham Hotspur, a game they were able to win 3-0. In that game against Tottenham, Leipzig were led by Marcel Sabitzer who scored in the 10th and 21st minute, and they never looked back.
One issue for Leipzig right now is they will be without Poulsen and Konate who are both injured for this game. Leipzig mostly is a young squad but they have proven they are talented, and aren’t afraid of the big moment. Against Tottenham Hotspur they looked confident, but they can’t get off to the wrong foot in this game. If they fall behind early, they will struggle to come away with a victory. The first goal in this game needs to be from Leipzig if they want to come away with a victory.
On the other side of this matchup is Atletico Madrid who comes into this game having a lot of success. The last loss for this squad came all the way back in February. One concern for this squad is they do have two positive COVID-19 players. Correa and Vrsaljko are the two players who are dealing with that. Madrid’s strength all season in La Liga has been with their defense. In this game there will probably be a defense first style, because there is confidence that the offense can get this done.
In the last five games, Atletico Madrid hasn’t scored more than two goals and hasn’t given up more than one goal.
The better team in this game is Atletico Madrid, but we actually aren’t going to make a play on the side. Look for their defense to step up in a big way and that is going to lead to this game staying under the posted total.
