Basel and Eintracht Frankfurt face off in their second leg of the round of 16 matchup in the Europa League. Basel looked impressive in the first meeting between these two squads before the shutdown coming away with a 3-0 victory.
FC Basel has to feel good about being in the drivers seat right now, because there has to be some concern about how they have played as of late. Each of the last two games Basel has played to 0-0 draws and the game before that they scored four gaols, but they also gave up four goals. In the last game, Basel did have 63 percent of the possession and 15 shots total, but none of the shots went into the back of the net. One of the big questions for Basel heading into this game is will they have their star goaltender. Jonas Omlin has had 16 clean sheets so far this season but he is dealing with a hamstring injury and it’s unclear if he is going to be able to go in this game. If he can’t go that is going to be a big loss for Basel and it will really hurt their chances. If Omlin isn’t able to go in this game, Basel will probably need to score a couple of goals to have a chance to come away with a win.
Eintracht Frankfurt is going to need to push numbers forward from the beginning if they want any chance to come away with a victory. Coming back from 3-0 is going to be a difficult task but it’s not something that should be considered impossible. The good news for Frankfurt is they haven’t had a long layoff heading into this game. Frankfurt last played the first day of the month against Monaco, a game they played to a 1-1 draw with Monaco. Outside of that game though, Frankfurt’s last game came the end of June, a game they won 2-1
Frankfurt might not do enough to advance, but they are going to do enough to keep this game interesting. Back Frankfurt to win this game on the money line.
