Sassuolo plays host to Udinese in Serie A soccer action from the Mapei Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Sassuolo comes into this match in 8th place on 51 points with a record of 14 wins, 9 draws and 14 losses after a 5-0 win over Genoa in their last match. In the victory over Genoa, Hamed Traore gave Sassuolo the lead in the 26th minute and Domenico Berardi doubled Sassuolo’s lead in the 39th minute. Francesco Caputo pushed the lead to 3-0 in the 66th for Sassuolo and the onslaught continued in the 74th when Giacomo Raspadori came in as a substitute and scored with his first touch of the match. Caputo completed his brace just three minutes later with his second goal of the game as Sassuolo coasted to a win. Francesco Caputo leads Sassuolo in scoring with 21 goals along with 7 assists while Domenico Berardi has 14 goals and a team-high 10 assists this season. Andrea Consigli is Sassuolo’s top goalkeeper, conceding 1.63 goals per 90 minutes with 5 clean sheets in 30 league appearances this season.
Udinese on the other side, sit in 14th place on 42 points with a record of 11 wins, 9 draws and 17 losses following a 2-1 loss to Lecce in their last match. In the loss to Lecce, Samir gave Udinese the lead in the 36th minute but Lecce would tie the game from the penalty spot just four minutes later. The tie would hold for much of the second half but Lecce would pull in front in the 81st minute and Udinese wouldn’t have an answer over the remaining 10+ minutes as Lecce held on for a huge three points in their fight for survival. Kevin Lasagna leads Udinese in scoring with 10 goals while Rodrigo de Paul and Stefano Okaka each have 7 goals with de Paul adding 6 assists. Seko Fofana leads Udinese with 7 assists on the year as well. Juan Agustin is Udinese’s #1 goaltender, conceding 1.24 goals per 90 minutes with 13 clean sheets in 37 league appearances this season.
Neither of these two teams have anything to play for in terms of the standings. However, Sassuolo have been really good offensively since the restart, and an 8th place finish would be the second-best finish for Sassuolo in their history in the top flight. Udinese has had some success finding the back of the net as well, but I don’t know if they can hang with Sassuolo here. I’ll back Sassuolo on the ML to get the win here.
