Atalanta and Inter Milan square off in Serie A soccer action from the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia on Saturday afternoon.
Atalanta comes into this game in 3rd place on 78 points with a record of 23-9-5 after a 2-1 win over Parma in their last match. In the win over Parma, Atalanta fell behind in the 43rd minute and spent much of the second half on the attack with 63% possession and 5 shots on target. Ruslan Malinovsky equalized for Atalanta in the 70th and Alejandro Gomez pushed Atalanta ahead by a count of 2-1 in the 84th minute of play. Parma would search for a tying goal late, but it never came as Atalanta held on for the win. Duvan Zapata and Luis Muriel each have a team-high 18 goals with Zapata logging 6 assists while Josip Ilicic has 15 goals and the aforementioned Gomez has a team-high 16 assists this season. Pierluigi Gollini is Atalanta’s top goalkeeper, conceding 1.13 goals per 90 minutes with 8 clean sheets in 32 league appearances this season.
Inter Milan on the other hand, sit in 2nd with 79 points and a record of 23-10-4 following a 2-0 win over Napoli in their last match. In the win over Napoli, Danilo D’Ambrosio pushed Inter in front in the 11th minute and the lead would hold up until the 74th minute when Lautaro Martinez added an insurance goal for Inter. Napoli would desperately search for a goal to get back into the game, but Inter would hold on for the clean sheet, ending Napoli’s hopes of contending for a Europa League spot for next season. Romelu Lukaku leads Inter Milan in scoring with 23 goals while Martinez has 14 goals and Alexis Sanchez has a team-high 8 assists. Antonio Candreva also has 7 assists for Inter Milan on the year. Samir Handanovic is Inter Milan’s top goalkeeper, conceding 0.91 goals per 90 minutes with 12 clean sheets in 34 league appearances this season.
Even with nothing of consequence to play for here, this should be a fantastic game as the winner finishes in 2nd this season. With that said, while Inter has been great on the road, going 3-3-0 away from home since the restart, we’re getting plus money with an Atalanta team that’s the highest-scoring in Serie A and will be out to break the 100-goal mark in this one. Atalanta has also won all six of their home games since the restart, so I’ll side with Atalanta to pick up the win on the ML here.
