AC Milan plays host to Cagliari from the San Siro on Saturday afternoon.
AC Milan comes into this game in 6th place on 63 points with a record of 18 wins, 9 draws and 10 losses following a 4-1 win over Sampdoria in their last match. In the win over Sampdoria, Zlatan Ibrahimovic gave AC Milan the lead in the 4th minute of play and the lead would hold into the second half when Hakan Calhanoglu pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 52nd and Ibrahimovic would complete his brace just six minutes later to push the lead to 3-0. Gianluigi Donnarumma would keep the three-goal lead in tact when he stopped Sampdoria from the penalty spot in the 78th but the clean sheet would be broken in the 87th minute. Rafael Leao would help secure the win for Milan by restoring the three-goal cushion in the second minute of second half stoppage time. Ante Rebic leads AC Milan in scoring with 11 goals while Ibrahimovic and Calhanoglu are tied with 9 goals apiece, with Calhanoglu leading AC Milan in assists with 9 helpers this season. Gianluigi Donnarumma leads AC Milan in goal, conceding 1.16 goals per 90 minutes with 11 clean sheets in 35 league appearances this season.
Cagliari on the other hand, sit in 13th place on 45 points with a record of 11 wins, 12 draws and 14 losses following a 2-0 win over Juventus in their last match. In the win over Juventus, Luca Gagliano gave Cagliari the lead in the 8th minute and Giovanni Simeone would double Cagliari’s advantage in the second half of first-half stoppage time. Juventus would chase in the second half, owning 68% possession and outshooting Cagliari 7-0 in terms of shots on goal, but in the end, Cagliari would stand tall and the two-goal lead would hold up at full time. Joao Pedro leads Cagliari in scoring with 18 goals while Simeone has 12 goals and Radja Nainggolan has a team-high 7 assists this season.
Neither of these teams have anything to play for really and the plus money with Cagliari is tempting. However, AC Milan’s been the team in much better form in this matchup, and have lost to Cagliari just once since 1999. I just think Milan would want to keep that dominance in tact, so I’ll back AC Milan to win with a -1.5 handicap.
