Cagliari plays host to Juventus in Serie A soccer action from the Sardegna Arena on Wednesday afternoon.
Cagliari comes into this match in 14th place on 42 points with a record of 10 wins, 12 draws and 14 losses following a 1-0 loss to Udinese in their last match. In the loss to Udinese, Cagliari fell behind in the second minute of play, and despite their best efforts to get back into the game, including 62% possession and 5 shots on goal in the second half, Udinese’s opening goal would hold up over the remaining 88+ minutes of game time, leaving Cagliari scoreless and extending their winless run in the process. Joao Pedro leads Cagliari in scoring with 18 goals along with 4 assists while Giovanni Simeone has 11 goals and Radja Nainggolan has a team-high 7 assists this season.
Juventus on the other hand, celebrated their 9th straight Serie A title, clinching the best record in the league with a mark of 26 wins, 5 draws and 5 losses following a 2-0 win over Sampdoria last time out. In the win over Sampdoria, Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring for Juventus in the rare seventh minute of first-half stoppage time. Federico Bernardeschi doubled Juventus’ lead in the 67th and that’s all Juventus would need as Sampdoria wouldn’t crack the seal on Juve’s goal despite each side having 8 shots on goal by full time. Ronaldo leads Juventus in scoring with 31 goals while Paulo Dybala has 11 goals and 6 assists. Rodrigo Bentancur has a team-high 7 assists for Juventus and Miralem Pjanic is tied with Dybala, sitting on 6 assists on the year in second.
The plus money’s tempting considering Juventus has nothing to play for realistically. With that said, I’m not backing Cagliari on an eight-game winless run and they haven’t beaten Juventus in over 10 years. A lot of the recent meetings between Juve and Cagliari have been Juve wins by at least two goals, so I’ll back Juventus on the -1.5 handicap here.
