Inter Milan plays host to Napoli in Serie A soccer action from the San Siro on Tuesday afternoon.
Inter Milan come into this game in 2nd place on 76 points with a record of 22 wins, 10 draws and 4 losses following a 3-0 win over Genoa in their last match. In the win over Genoa, Romelu Lukaku struck in the 34th minute to give Inter a 1-0 lead that held into the half. The lead also stood for a good chunk of the second half before Alexis Sanchez pushed the lead to 2-0 before Lukaku secured the win with a 3rd goal for Inter, completing his personal brace in the third minute of second-half stoppage time. Lukaku leads Inter with 23 goals on the year while Lautaro Martinez has 12 goals and Alexis Sanchez has a team-high 8 assists this season. Antonio Candreva has 7 assists while Marcelo Brozovic has 6 helpers for Milan on the year. Samir Handanovic is Inter Milan’s top goalkeeper, conceding 0.94 goals per 90 minutes with 11 clean sheets in 33 league appearances this season.
Napoli on the other hand, sits in 7th place on 59 points with a record of 17 wins, 8 draws and 11 losses following a 2-0 win over Sassuolo last time out. In the win over Sassuolo, Elseid Hysaj opened the scoring for Napoli in the 8th minute, and the lead held until Sassuolo thought they had equalized in the 37th, but VAR would overturn the goal due to offsides in the buildup. VAR would overturn two more Sassuolo goals before the hour mark, leaving Sassuolo to chase an equalizer that they thought they had 3 times, but ended up being shutout as Allan scored to give Napoli an insurance goal at 2-0 in the 3rd minute of second-half stoppage time. Arkadiusz Milik leads Napoli in scoring with 11 goals while Dries Mertens has 9 goals with 5 assists and Lorenzo Insigne has 7 goals with 6 assists this season. Jose Callejon has a team-high 7 assists for Napoli this season.
I get why you could make the case for Inter as a favorite, as both have been a mixed bag, Inter at home, and Napoli on the road, as of late. However, Inter’s locked into the top-4, already have Champions League locked up and are playing for pride at this point. Napoli have to win to keep their hopes of a Europa League spot alive, sitting a point back of AC Milan for 6th and AC Milan has a more than winnable game at Sampdoria on Wednesday. I think Napoli comes out firing from the opening whistle, so I’ll take a stab at Napoli on the money line here.
