Arsenal faces Watford on Sunday, July 26th at Vicarage Road for an English Premier League match.
Arsenal is coming off a shock 1-0 loss on the road against Aston Villa in their last match. Aston Villa needed the win dearly, and that determination to find a victory worked in Villa's favor. Trezeguet scored in the 27th minute to give Aston Villa the early lead. Arsenal could not find the equalizer for the life of them, despite owning 69% of the possession throughout the entire match. Arsenal took seven total shots in the match, but none of the seven made it on target. Aston Villa's defensive performance may just keep themselves in the Premier League, as they have now leapfrogged Watford in the standings due to owning the better goal differential.
Watford needs at least a point in this match if they do not want the relegation scenarios to come down to tiebreaking procedures (goal differential). Aston Villa and Watford are tied with 34 points each, but Aston Villa has the advantage in the goal differential category, as Villa is a -26, and Watford is a -27. If Watford would have been able to stop the bleeding a bit in its loss to Manchester City, the team would be in a better spot. Unfortunately for Watford, the club lost to Manchester City by the final score of 4-0, which hurt Watford's chances incredibly. The fact of the matter is that Watford will be the biggest West Ham United fans on Sunday, as the Hammers take on Aston Villa on Sunday. If Watford can minimize damage in this match against Arsenal, and West Ham United is able to earn a blowout victory, Watford may be saved.
The last time Arsenal and Watford met was on September 15th of 2019, in which the two teams took a 2-2 draw.
Watford is literally fighting for their Premier League lives. A draw may be enough for Watford to avoid relegation, and when you have a team that is in this much desperation playing against a team with nothing on the line, I have to side with the former. I will take Watford against the spread at +0.5.
Ron’s Pick Watford +0.5 (-115)
