Verona plays host to Lazio in Serie A soccer action from the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi on Sunday afternoon.
Verona comes into this match in 9th place on 46 points with a record of 11 wins, 13 draws and 11 losses following a 1-1 draw with Torino in their last match. In the draw with Torino, the first half was quiet, only seeing one booking per side, but Verona would take the lead in the 56th minute when Fabio Borini would convert from the penalty spot. Torino would be quick to tie the game at one just 11 minutes later, but in the end, neither side would find another go-ahead goal from that point on, leaving the points to be split at full time. Matteo Pessina leads Verona in scoring with 7 goals while Samuel Di Carmine has 6 goals and Darko Lazovic has a team-high 6 assists this season. Marco Silvestri is Verona’s top goalkeeper, conceding 1.06 goals per 90 minutes with 9 clean sheets in 35 league appearances this season.
Lazio on the other hand, sits in 4th place on 72 points with a record of 22 wins, 6 draws and 7 losses following a 2-1 win over Cagliari in their last match. In the iwn over Cagliari, Lazio fell behind just before halftime, but Sergej Milinkovic-Savic would equalize for Lazio in the 47th minute. Ciro Immobile would score on the hour mark to push Lazio 2-1 in front and despite Cagliari’s best efforts, Lazio would hold on for the win and the points that go along with it. Immobile leads Lazio in scoring with 31 goals on the year along with 8 assists while Luis Alberto has a team-high 15 assists this season.
Neither of these teams have a ton left to play for, but Lazio literally has a strand of hope to catch Juventus for the title if they get a ton of help. Verona’s stuck in Serie A purgatory where they’re not going up or down and are locked into the mid-table. I’ll take a shot with Lazio to win on the money line here.
