AS Roma plays host to Fiorentina in Serie A soccer action from the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday afternoon.
AS Roma enters this match in 5th place on 61 points with a record of 18 wins, 7 draws and 10 losses following a 6-1 dismantling of Spal in their last match. In the win over Spal, Nikola Kalinic opened the scoring in the 10th minute but Spal would equalize in the 14th minute of play. Carles Perez would give Roma the lead back in the 38th and the lead would hold until Aleksandar Kolarov pushed the lead to 3-1 in the 47th and Bruno Peres made it 4-1 in the 52nd. Peres completed his brace in the 75th to make it 5-1 with his second goal and Nicolo Zaniolo made it 6-1 in the 90th to pour salt in Spal’s wound. Edin Dzeko leads Roma in scoring with 15 goals but he also has 7 assists while Lorenzo Pellegrini leads Roma in the assist department with 9 goals this season. Pau Lopez is Roma’s top goalkeeper, conceding 1.33 goals per 90 minutes with 5 clean sheets in 30 league appearances this season.
Fiorentina on the other hand, sit in 11th place on 43 points with a record of 10 wins, 13 draws and 12 losses following a scoreless draw with Inter Milan last time out. In the draw with Inter Milan, the first half only saw one booking that went Fiorentina’s way, but no scoring. The second half saw much of the same with Inter applying pressure, holding 60% possession with 5 shots on goal, but in the end, neither side would have the breakthrough goal, leaving the points to be split at full time. Federico Chiesa leads Fiorentina in scoring with 7 goals while also leading the team in assists with 5 helpers this season. Bartlomiej Dragowski is Fiorentina’s top goalkeeper, conceding 1.26 goals per 90 minutes with 8 clean sheets in 31 league appearances this season.
I’ll give Fiorentina for going on a solid unbeaten run late in the year with realistically nothing to play for but pride, positioning and to fulfill contracts. With that said, Roma can lock up Europa League with a win here and I just think that after dismantling Spal, Roma will want to keep their scoring boots on for at least one more match. I’ll take Roma to win with the over 1.5 goals to get the price on the wager down.
