Manchester United faces West Ham United on Wednesday, July 22nd at Old Trafford for an English Premier League match.
Manchester United's unbeaten streak finally came to a close on July 19th, as Chelsea was able to defeat Manchester United by the final score of 3-1. This match was in the semifinals of the English FA Cup, therefore Manchester United still holds an unbeaten streak of 12 matches in strictly Premier League play, for those of you counting at home. Manchester United is currently tied with Leicester City for 4th/5th place in the Premier League with 62 points each. Both teams also own a +28 goal differential, therefore these final two matches for each club will decide who earns fourth and who gets fifth in the Premier League table. Manchester United actually takes on Leicester City in their last match of the Premier League fixtures, so that game should of plenty of implications for both squads.
West Ham United is coming off one of their biggest and most important wins of the season when West Ham took down Watford. The final score of that match was 3-1, as West Ham United was in control from start to finish. With that victory, West Ham United moves into 15th place in the Premier League standings, as it was a big step for safety. West Ham United leapfrogged Brighton in the process, as West Ham United has a better goal differential than Brighton. West Ham United is not ready to close up shop quite yet, as this team is still not 100% officially safe from relegation, and we have seen some crazy relegation scenarios occur over the years in this league.
The last time Manchester United and West Ham United met was on September 22nd of 2019 in which West Ham United was victorious by the final score of 2-0 at home.
Although I like Manchester United to win this match, I have noticed that their defense has been a bit sloppy as of late. The major reason why Manchester United went on such an impressive unbeaten streak was its tight defense, and that has just not been the case as of late. I am going to take Manchester United to win this match, but I think West Ham United finds at least one goal.
