Torino plays host to Verona in Serie A soccer action from the Stadio Olimpico di Torino on Wednesday afternoon.
Torino comes into this match in 15th place on 37 points with a record of 11 wins, 4 draws and 19 losses following a 2-0 loss to Fiorentina in their last match. In the loss to Fiorentina, Torino fell behind after a Lyanco own goal in the second minute. Torino would have 58% possession in the second half, but would only muster up one shot on target while Fiorentina had 3 shots on goal and found a second goal in the 75th minute. All of this added up meant a loss for Torino at full time. Andrea Belotti leads Torino in scoring with 16 goals while Simone Verdi has a team-high 5 assists this season. Salvatore Sirigu is Torino’s top goalkeeper, conceding 1.76 goals per 90 minutes with 7 clean sheets in 34 league appearances this season.
Verona on the other hand, comes into this one in 9th place on 45 points with a record of 11 wins, 12 draws and 11 losses following a 1-1 draw with Atalanta last time out. In the draw with Atalanta, the first half only saw one booking that went the way of Verona, and Atalanta would take the lead five minutes after halftime. Matteo Pessina would equalize for Verona just nine minutes later and despite the best efforts from both sides, neither would find the go-ahead goal over the last half hour plus, leading us to have to settle for the draw at full time. Pessina leads Verona in scoring with 7 goals while Di Carmine has 6 goals for Verona and Darko Lazovic has a team-high 6 assists this season. Marco Silvestri is Veron’a #1 goalkeeper, conceding 1.06 goals per 90 minutes with 9 clean sheets in 34 league apperances this season.
A win would be nice for Torino to almost ensure their safety and it could come against a Verona side with nothing but pride and contractual obligations to play for over the next few games. However, It’s hard to figure out what you’re going to get from Torino and their win one, lose one form while Verona just can’t win a game, but they’re picking up draws more often than not. Speaking of the draw, it’s happened in four of the last five head-to-head between these two teams including a 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture, so why not? Give me the draw here as I think both sides would settle for a point.
