Inter Milan plays host to Fiorentina in Serie A soccer action from the San Siro on Wednesday afternoon.
Inter Milan comes into this match on 72 points with a record of 21 wins, 9 draws and 4 losses following a 2-2 draw with Roma in their last match. In the draw with Roma, Stefan de Vrij opened the scoring for Inter in the 15th minute but Roma would tie the game in the first minute of first-half stoppage time. Roma would forge ahead 2-1 early in the second half, but Romelu Lukaku would pull out an equalizing goal for Inter from the penalty spot in the 88th minute, leaving the two sides all square at full time. Lukaku’s goal gives him a team-high 21 goals this season while Lautaro Martinez has 13 goals and Alexis Sanchez has a team-high 8 assists this season. Samir Handanovic is Inter’s top goalkeeper, conceding one goal per 90 minutes with 9 clean sheets in 31 league appearances this season.
Fiorentina on the other hand, sit in 12th on 42 points with a record of 10 wins, 12 draws and 12 losses following back-to-back wins including a 2-0 win over Torino last time out. In the win over Torino, Fiorentina took the lead thanks to a Torino own goal just two minutes into the game and that goal would hold up into the halftime break and for a good chunk of the second half before Patrick Cutrone gave Fiorentina a 2-0 lead in the 75th. Torino would hold 58% possession in the second half, but in the end, Fiorentina just ended up being too much, holding on for the win and the points that go with it. Federico Chiesa leads Fiorentina in scoring with 7 goals along with 5 assists while Dusan Vlahovic and Erick Pulgar each have 6 goals this season with Pulgar chipping in 4 assists. Bartlomiej Dragowski leads Fiorentina in goal, conceding 1.26 goals per 90 minutes with 8 clean sheets in 31 league appearances this season.
I really like what I’ve seen from Fiorentina early on, but the problem I’m having is that the Viola haven’t really had any success against any notable opposition since the restart. Sure, Fiorentina tied Verona who are in 9th, but the three wins since the restart came against Lecce and Brescia who are both in the relegation zone as well as Torino who are barely outside of the bottom 5. Inter’s locked in in the top 4 and heading to the Champions League next season, but they’re also the better team overall and I just think that Inter does enough to get the win. To get the price on Inter down, since each of the last five meetings saw both teams on the score sheet, I’ll take Inter to win with both teams to score to get the wager into plus money.
