Brighton faces Newcastle United on Monday, July 20th at American Express Community Stadium for an English Premier League match. 

Brighton is coming off a 1-1 draw at Southampton in their last match. Brighton only has one win in their last five matches, which includes three losses and the draw to Southampton. Brighton took the early lead against Southampton when Neal Maupay scored in the 17th minute to make it 1-0. That score would hold for the rest of the first half, giving Brighton a 1-0 lead at the break. Danny Ings of Southampton found the equalizing goal in the 66th minute, and that 1-1 score would hold for the remainder of the contest. Brighton now moves down to 16th in the Premier League standings after West Ham United defeated Watford. Brighton is still in okay shape, but the team is certainly not safe by any means. A big win against Newcastle United would keep Brighton around next season, so there is a lot at stake for Hove Albion. 

Newcastle United was defeated 3-1 by Tottenham Hotspur in their last match. Newcastle United was arguably the stronger team for the majority of the match, as Newcastle United had more shots, shots on target, and held a majority of possession in the loss. Newcastle United's Matt Ritchie was the lone goal scorer for his club, as he found the then equalizer in the 56th minute to make it 1-1. Harry Kane would score two goals afterwards to give Tottenham the victory in the end.

The last time Brighton and Newcastle United met was on September 21st of 2019, in which the two teams were scoreless in a nil-nil draw. 

Recent meetings between these two teams have been very low scoring, with scores like 0-0, 1-0, and 1-1 being common. I am going to expect the opposite in this match, as both teams have conceded a ton of goals as of late. I see both teams scoring at least once, with a 2-1 or 2-2 score in mind. In the last five matches Newcastle United has played, all five had at least three goals scored combined. Brighton's defense has not been sharp either, especially at home. I will take the over.
