Juventus plays host to Lazio in Serie A soccer action from the Allianz Stadium on Monday afternoon.
Juventus comes into this match leading the Serie A table on 77 points with a record of 24 wins, 5 draws and 4 losses following back-to-back draws, including a 3-3 tie with Sassuolo last time out. In the tie with Sassuolo, Danilo gave Juventus the lead just six minutes into the game and Gonzalo Higuain would double Juve’s lead just six minutes after that. Sassuolo would pull a goal back in the 29th and would surge in front right out of the halftime break, scoring a pair of goals in the 51st and 54th minutes to tie the game and take a 3-2 lead. Alex Sandro equalized for Juventus in the 64th and despite both sides putting a strong foot forward, the 3-3 score line would hold all the way up to the final whistle in one of the more entertaining Serie A matches of the season. Cristiano Ronaldo leads Juventus in scoring with 28 goals while Paulo Dybala has 11 goals and Rodrigo Bentancur has 7 assists this season.
Lazio on the other hand, comes into this match in 4th with 69 points and a record of 21 wins, 6 draws and 6 losses following a scoreless draw with Udinese last time out. In the draw with Udinese, both sides saw a pair of yellow cards in the referee’s book, and both had two shots on goal but Lazio had 60% possession with 11 shots on goal to Udinese’s 4. Udinese had the bulk of the scoring chances in the second half but Lazio still had 54% possession but in the end none of it mattered as neither side found the back of the net, sharing the points between the two sides. Ciro Immobile leads Lazio as well as all of Serie A with 29 goals along with 8 assists while Felipe Calcedo has 9 goals and Luis Alberto has a team-high 14 assists this season.
This is not what I pictured that I’d be saying when I saw this game on the schedule, but both of these teams are struggling right now and I’m really not sure why. However, I do know that a win here would go a long way towards helping Juventus lock up the Serie A crown and would also put Lazio out of their misery. I expect both teams to come out firing here, but I see Juventus coming out on top. I do see Lazio putting up a fight though, so rather than laying juice with Juventus, I’ll side with Juve to win with both teams scoring to get the wager into heavy plus money.
