Valladolid hosts Real Betis in La Liga soccer action from the Estadio Jose Zorrilla on Sunday afternoon.
Valladolid comes into this match in 16th place on 39 points, tied with Alaves after a 3-1 loss to Eibar in their last match to put their record at 8 wins, 15 draws and 14 losses this season. In the loss to Eibar, Valladolid fell behind in the 21st minute and Eibar would double their lead just seven minutes later. The lead would hold into the second half and Valladolid had a chance in the 71st to cut into the deficit but Sergi Guardiola would miss from the penalty spot for Valladolid. Luckily Guardiola banged in the rebound to make it a 2-1 game but Eibar would slam the door shut on any comeback attempt with an insurance goal in the second minute of second-half stoppage time. Guardiola’s goal gives him a team-high 7 goals while Enes Unal is right behind with 6 goals and Jordi Masip, Valladolid’s top goalkeeper, is conceding 0.97 goals per 90 minutes with 11 clean sheets in 35 league matches this season.
Real Betis on the other hand, enters this one in 14th on 41 points with a record of 10 wins, 11 draws and 16 losses following a 2-1 loss to Alaves last time out. In the loss to Alaves, Betis were denied the game’s opening goal in the 4th minute when VAR overturned the decision when it was determined a player was offside in the buildup to the goal. The game would stay tied at zero into the half and Alaves would take a 1-0 lead in the 51st minute before doubling the advantage in the 76th. Loren Moron would get Betis on the board in the third minute of second-half stoppage time, but in the end it was too late as Alaves held on for the win. Moron leads Real Betis in scoring with 10 goals while Joaquin has 8 goals on the year. Emerson and Sergio Canales each have a team-high 6 assists as well while Joel Robles is Betis’ top goalkeeper, conceding 1.4 goals per 90 minutes with 5 clean sheets in 33 league appearances this season.
I considered the draw as these two teams have combined for 26 draws this season, but it’s hard to picture what we’re really going to see in the final matchday of the season with nothing but pride to play for. With that said, the last three meetings have seen a combined six goals and in any other circumstance I’d think we’d see a competitive match, but I genuinely just think these guys kick the ball around for 90 minutes just to play out the final game of the season and I wouldn’t be shocked if this was a scoreless game or 1-0 at most. Give me the under here.
