Sevilla takes on Valencia in La Liga soccer action from the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on Sunday afternoon.
Sevilla comes into this match in 4th place on 67 points with a record of 18 wins, 13 draws and 6 losses following a scoreless draw with Real Sociedad last time out. In the tie with Sociedad, the first half saw Sevilla receive the lone booking in the first minute of first half stoppage time. Sevilla would end up with 62% possession in the game as well as 67% possession in the second half, but in the end, neither side had the breakthrough goal to take the lead, leaving the points to be split between the two teams at full time. Lucas Ocampos leads Sevilla in scoring with 14 goals while Ever Banega has a team-high 7 assists this year. Tomas Vaclik is Sevilla’s top goaltender, conceding 0.92 goals per 90 minutes with 14 clean sheets in 33 league appearances this season.
Valencia on the other side, come into this game in 8th place on 53 points with a record of 14 wins, 11 draws and 12 losses following a 1-0 victory over Espanyol in their last match. In the victory over Espanyol, Kevin Gameiro gave Valencia the lead after just 17 minutes of play and the lead held into the second half, where Espanyol outshot Valencia 11-2 in terms of goal attempts and 4-1 in regards to shots on goal. However, in the end, it wasn’t enough for Espanyol as Valencia slammed the door shut on any comeback attempt from Espanyol the rest of the way. Maxi Gomez leads Valencia in scoring with 10 goals while Daniel Parejo has 8 goals and Rodrigo Moreno has a team-high 7 assists for Valencia on the year.
It’s all or nothing for Valencia here, as they need a win to have a shot at qualifying for the Europa League next season. However, Valencia’s also won just four of their last 18 matches and they’ve picked up just three wins and 13 points from 18 road matches this season. On the other hand, Sevilla have nothing but pride to play for and to play the role of spoiler, so it’s hard to get an idea on which Sevilla team takes the field. Either way, I envision this being a low-scoring game, just like each of the last four that have seen two goals or less. Give me the under 2.5 goals in this one.
Chris’s Pick Under 2.5 Goals (EVEN)
