Osasuna plays host to Mallorca in La Liga soccer action from the Estadio El Sadar on Sunday afternoon.
Osasuna comes into this match in 11th place, tied with Bilbao on 51 points with a record of 13 wins, 12 draws and 12 losses following a 2-1 win over Barcelona in their last match. In the win over Barcelona, Arnaiz Diaz gave Osasuna the lead in the 15th minute and the goal would hold until Barcelona tied the game at one in the 62nd minute. The game looked headed for a draw despite Barca having a whopping 80% possession in the game and 82% possession in the second half, but Roberto Torres would steal the win and the points for Osasuna in the fourth minute of second half stoppage time. Ruben Garcia has 8 goals for Osasuna while the aforementioned Torres has 7 goals and a team-high 7 assists this season.
Mallorca on the other hand, sits in 19th place with 32 points and a record of 9 wins, 5 draws and 23 losses following a 2-1 loss to Granada in their last match. In the loss to Granada, Cucho gave Mallorca the lead in the 20th minute, but Granada would tie the game at one in the first minute of first half stoppage time. Granada would take a 2-1 lead in the 69th minute and despite Mallorca’s best efforts, they wouldn’t be able to find a game-tying goal down the stretch, leaving the win to Granada and sealing their fate in the relegation zone this season. Ante Budimir leads Mallorca in scoring with 12 goals while Takefusa Kubo has a team-high 4 assists this season. Manuel Reina is Mallorca’s top goalkeeper, conceding 1.58 goals per 90 minutes with 5 clean sheets in 36 league appearances this season.
This is a hard game between two teams with their fates pretty much decided here, as Mallorca’s going back down to the second division while Osasuna’s sticking in the mid table. However, Osasuna’s coming off of the massive win over Barcelona and you’d have to think that it would carry some positive vibes to next year if you finish the season on a three game winning streak and pick up your first top ten finish in the top flight since 2011-12. I just think that Osasuna gets the job done here, so I’ll side with Osasuna on the ML to get the victory and finish the year on a high note.
