Levante and Getafe meet in La Liga soccer action from Estadi Olimpic Camilo Cano on Sunday afternoon.
Levante comes into this game in 12th place on 46 points with a record of 13 wins, 7 draws and 17 losses following a 3-2 win over Celta Vigo in their last match. In the win over Vigo, Enis Bardhi gave Levante the lead in the 11th minute and they’d almost have a second goal three minutes later but VAR would overturn the decision, ruling a Levante player was in an offside position in the buildup to the goal. Bardhi would give Levante their second goal in the 28th, completing his brace, but Vigo would pull one back in the 36th and tie the game at two in the first minute of second half stoppage time. Borja Mayoral would restore the lead for Levante in the 52nd minute but Levante would play a man down from the 59th minute on as Jorge Miramon was shown a straight red card. Vigo thought they’d have a game-tying goal in stoppage time, but this time, VAR saved Levante after Getafe’s goal was overturned for offside. Roger Marti leads Levante in scoring with 11 goals while Mayoral has 8 goals and Bardhi now has 7 goals this season. Jose Campana also has a team-high 7 assists for Levante this year. Altor Fernandez is Levante’s top goalkeeper, conceding 1.42 goals per 90 minutes with 5 clean sheets in 36 league appearances this season.
Getafe on the other hand, sit in 7th place on 54 points with a record of 14 wins, 12 draws and 11 losses following a 2-0 loss to Atletico Madrid in their last match. In the loss to Atletico, the first half only saw one booking issued to Atletico late in first half stoppage time. Atletico would break the deadlock in the 54th minute and while the two sides would trade chances in the second half, with Getafe owning just 33% possession but each side had 3 shots on goal, they wouldn’t be able to find an equalizing goal before Atleti doubled their lead in the 80th minute, sealing the deal on Getafe leaving empty-handed at full time. David Soria is Getafe’s top goalkeeper, conceding 0.92 goals per 90 minutes with 15 clean sheets in 37 league appearances this season.
I get why Getafe’s favored as they have everything to play for, holding onto a Europa League spot on the final matchday, but it’s hard for me to lay juice when Getafe’s also won just once since the La Liga restart last month. On the other hand, even at these odds, it’s hard for me to justify backing Levante for the sake of heavy plus money. Instead, I’m going to side with the under. I think we see a cautious approach from Getafe as to not make a mistake and cough up a lead, and prior to the reverse fixture this season, each of the previous six head-to-head meetings saw two goals or less for a combined eight goals over those six games. I think if we see goals here, it’s 1-0 or 1-1 at best, so I’ll side with the under 2.5 goals as my bet for this match.
