Granada plays host to Athletic Bilbao in La Liga soccer action from the Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes on Sunday afternoon.
Granada comes into this game in 9th place on 53 points with a record of 15 wins, 8 draws and 14 losses following a 2-1 win over Mallorca in their last match. In the win over Mallorca, Granada actually fell behind in the 20th minute before Victor Diaz tied the game at one for Granada in the first minute of first-half stoppage time. The tie would hold up until Carlos Fernandez gave Granada the lead in the 69th minute and from that point on, Granada wouldn’t look back as they’d hold on for the win and a big three points. Fernandez’s goal gives him a team-high 9 goals this season while Darwin Machis has 7 goals with 5 assists and Antonio Puertas and Roberto Soldado each have 6 goals this season. Angel Montoro and the aforementioned Diaz each have 5 assists to share the team lead with Machis in that regard as well. Rui Tiago leads Granada in goal, conceding 1.18 goals per 90 minutes with 11 clean sheets in 34 league appearances this season.
Athletic Bilbao on the other hand, comes into this match in 10th place on 51 points with a record of 13 wins, 12 draws and 12 losses following a 2-0 loss to Leganes in their last match. In the loss to Leganes, Unai Simon was given a straight red card in the 22nd minute, leaving Bilbao to have to sub in their backup goalkeeper for the remainder of the match. The scoreless tie would hold up through halftime and well into the second half before Leganes took the lead in the 79th and locked up the win with an insurance goal in the fourth minute of second half stoppage time. Raul Garcia leads Bilbao in scoring with 15 goals on the year while Ander Capa, Inigo Cordoba and Unai Lopez all have a team-high 4 assists this season.
The plus money with Bilbao is tempting considering Granada hasn’t won back-to-back games since February. However, even with a world of help, Bilbao can’t get into 7th as they lost the tiebreaker with Getafe so there’s nothing but pride to play for. Granada needs a ton of help themselves, but with that help they could leapfrog into the Europa League spots. I think Granada comes out with a purpose and picks up the win here, so I’ll take my chance on Granada on the moneyline to pick up the win here.
