AS Roma plays host to Inter Milan in Serie A soccer action from the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday afternoon.
AS Roma comes into this match in 5th place on 57 points with a record of 17 wins, 6 draws and 10 losses following a 3rd straight win in the form of a 2-1 win over Verona in their last match. In the win over Verona, Jordan Veretout gave Roma the lead just 10 minutes in from the penalty spot and Edin Dzeko doubled Roma’s lead in the fourth minute of first-half stoppage time. Verona would pull a goal back right out of the break, two minutes into the second half, but Roma would ride their first half lead to the finish line, holding 52% possession with each side logging 3 shots on goal in the second half. Dzeko leads Roma in scoring with 15 goals along with 5 assists while Henrikh Mkhitaryan has 8 goals with 4 assists and Lorenzo Pellegrini has a team-high 9 assists this season. Pau Lopez is Roma’s top goalkeeper, conceding 1.32 goals per 90 minutes with 5 clean sheets in 28 league appearances this season.
Inter Milan on the other hand, come into this match on 71 points in 2nd place with a record of 21 wins, 8 draws and 4 losses following a 4-0 win over Spal last time out. In the win over Spal, Antonio Candreva gave Inter the lead in the 37th minute and the goal would hold until Cristiano Biraghi doubled Inter’s lead in the 55th and Alexis Sanchez pushed the lead to 3-0 just five minutes later. Roberto Gagliardini added a 4th goal for good measure in the 73rd and by that point it was a foregone conclusion that yet another defeat was on the cards for Spal. Romelu Lukaku leads Inter Milan in scoring with 20 goals while Lautaro Martinez is 2nd with 13 goals and both Alexis Sanchez and Antonio Candreva have a team-high 7 assists this season. Samir Handanovic is Inter’s top goalkeeper, conceding 0.97 goals per 90 minutes with 9 clean sheets in 30 league appearances this season.
Inter picked up a pair of confidence building wins to get their groove back, but Romelu Lukaku is expected to miss this match and that’s a huge part of Inter’s attack. And while the wins are impressive, Inter’s last three wins came against Spal, Torino and Brescia, three teams in the bottom six, two of which are in the relegation zone. Roma’s in stride right now and have won 3 in a row, and I just think they’re catching Inter Milan in an off spot here and could use the win to strengthen their hold on a Europa League spot. I’ll take a shot with Roma to get the win on the ML here.
